On the afternoon of the 4th, the Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, the Shanghai Friendship Association and the Shanghai University of Technology jointly held the "Symposium on Studying General Secretary Xi Jinping's Important Instructions on the 'Belt and Road' Work and the Spirit of Important Speech at the Opening Ceremony of the China-Laos Railway". At the meeting, the "Belt and Road" China-Laos Railway Engineering International Joint Laboratory was unveiled.
According to the data, since the "Belt and Road" initiative was proposed for eight years, China has signed cooperation documents with 140 countries and 32 international organizations to jointly build the "Belt and Road". The Belt and Road Initiative has become the world's longest span and most potential cooperation belt, and the world's most extensive and largest international cooperation platform.
At present, the construction of the "Belt and Road" is steadily advancing from "big idea" to "work stroke". In this process, not only tall projects are needed, but also small and beautiful projects, and the training of Lao railway engineers in Shangyingda is a vivid embodiment of the latter, and many "small and beautiful" will make the grand narrative of the "Belt and Road" more exciting.
Since 2018, Shanghai University of Technology has cooperated with relevant universities in Laos to recruit and train 3 batches of 31 Lao railway engineering students. At the symposium, some scholars believed that Shanghai's training of railway professionals for Laos reflects Shanghai's focus on identifying localities to participate in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road", and is a vivid case of mutual cooperation and mutual promotion between official diplomacy and non-governmental diplomacy. At a time when the international environment is becoming increasingly complex, Shanghai should further strengthen its local foreign affairs work capacity in accordance with the overall diplomatic requirements of the countries that are united and friendly with neighboring countries and continue to deepen international and regional cooperation.
