Xining, December 1 (China News Service) "Today, from Golmud in Qinghai Province, through Coco Xili, to the source of the Yangtze River, the Qinghai section of the Green Station of the Qinghai-Tibet Highway has been put into operation for five years, and nearly 1,000 volunteers have been involved in the relay, collecting and taking away 500,000 pieces of garbage. Yang Xin, head of The Green River, a Non-governmental environmental protection organization in China, told a reporter from China News Agency on the 1st.

The "Qinghai-Tibet Green Station" project is a garbage collection station jointly established by the Qinghai Provincial Government and the Green River along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway, which is mainly based on garbage recycling, taking into account the public welfare site that provides long-distance truck drivers and self-driving tourists with short breaks and ecological resources and environmental protection publicity. At present, the project has built 6 stations in Qinghai, namely Golmud Yi, Kunlun Quanyi, Kunlun Mountain Yi, SanjiangyuanYi, Yangtze River Yuanyi and Feng volcano Yi.

Yang Xin introduced that based on the survey, Green River calls on self-driving tourists on the Qinghai-Tibet Highway to participate in the "take away a bag of garbage" project, use air-return vehicles to transport garbage from the source of the Yangtze River to cities with processing capacity, effectively reduce garbage pollution and recycle resources in water sources, and explore the "decentralized collection, long-distance transportation, centralized disposal" of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau garbage collection and transportation method.

"Through five years of exploration and demonstration, in order to make the garbage on both sides of the 450 kilometers of the Kunlun Pass of the Qinghai-Tibet Highway to the Tanggula Pass 'have a place to drop', the six 'Qinghai-Tibet Green Stations' distributed in the Qinghai territory of the Qinghai-Tibet Highway were launched in 2016, extending 420 kilometers from Golmud to Tanggula Mountain Town, crossing a number of important geographical units such as the Qaidam Basin, the Coco Xili World Natural Heritage Site, the Sanjiangyuan National Park, and the Kunlun Mountain National Geopark." Yang Xin said that each station is composed of parking lots and containerized houses, container houses are divided into different functions of tourist service rooms, garbage collection tool rooms, volunteer dormitories, kitchens, environmental protection dry toilets, etc. The container houses have low costs, which is convenient for overall hoisting and transportation, and is more suitable for the operation characteristics of the Qinghai-Tibet green station open according to the seasons.

"In recent years, through our joint efforts, the environment along the Yangtze River source area and coco Xili has also undergone great changes." Tudan Danba, director of the Yangtze River Source Water Ecological And Environmental Protection Station, told a China News Agency reporter.

Li Linhao, a volunteer from Guangzhou, worked at the Green Station at the beginning of this year, "Our volunteers usually work to pick up garbage along the route and carry out garbage surveys to obtain comprehensive and accurate garbage data and provide a basis for local garbage disposal capacity building."
