On October 19, 1935, the Central Red Army and the Northern Shaanxi Red Army finally met in Wuqi Town, Northern Shaanxi, and came to the base area of Northern Shaanxi.
It had been a year and nine days since the Red Army withdrew from the Central Soviet Region and began the Long March.
The Battle of Wuqizhen was the last victorious battle in which the Central Red Army entered the base area of northern Shaanxi.
It was also here that the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China announced the victorious end of the Long March of the Red Army.
And in Wuqi Town, Huang Kaixiang, a young red army commander, died.
When they first arrived in Wuqi Town, Yang Chengwu and Huang Kaixiang both suffered from typhoid fever. In particular, Huang Kaixiang, with a high fever of more than forty degrees Celsius, was comatose every day. The doctor tried everything he could, but it didn't make him better.
What he didn't expect was that he had a pistol hidden under his pillow. In a comatose state, he felt the gun and pulled the trigger on his head, killing him on the spot.

After Huang Kaixiang's sudden death, some people thought that he committed suicide, which was a disgraceful thing at that time, so he was hastily buried, with no wreaths in front of the tomb, no tombstones, and no memorial service.
Huang Kaixiang left only a watch and a relic of a pistol, which was later given to Nie Rongzhen and the pistol to Zuo Quan.
Huang Kaixiang (1901-1935), also known as Wang Kaixiang, was a native of Yiyang, Jiangxi, and a member of the Communist Party of China. He successively served as secretary of the CPC District Committee, secretary of the county party committee, and political commissar of the First Division of the Red First Army, and the commander of the division at that time was Li Jukui. After the Battle of Xiangjiang, the troops were downsized and appointed as the commander of the Red Fourth Regiment.

It turned out that in 1985, "Memoirs of Yang Chengwu" was published publicly, and Yang Chengwu mentioned his good partner many times in the book - the leader of the Red Fourth Regiment, "Wang Kaixiang" (actually Huang Kaixiang), who was very nostalgic for this old comrade-in-arms, and detailed the death of Huang Kaixiang, revealing the fact that it was not suicide but the shooting and manslaughter in a coma.
