On November 29, 2021, Baidu, Jidu and Qualcomm Technologies announced that Jidu's first production model will use an intelligent digital cockpit system jointly supported by Baidu and Qualcomm Technologies.

It is understood that Jidu is an automotive robot start-up company initiated by Baidu Group and invested by Geely Group. The company was officially established in March 2021 with Xia Yiping as CEO.

The 4th generation Snapdragon Digital Cockpit Platform, the 8295, adopts a 5nm process technology and supports safe applications in accordance with the ISO 26262 standard to support a new generation of intelligent and connected vehicles and help the industry transform to a regional architecture concept.

The system is based on Qualcomm Technologies' 4th-generation Snapdragon ™ Digital Cockpit Platform- 8295, which is equipped with next-generation smart cabin systems and software solutions jointly developed by Jidu and Baidu. The jigzag model is expected to be launched in 2023 and will be the first mass production model in China to adopt the digital cockpit platform of the fourth-generation Snapdragon automobile. At the same time, the concept car of the product is expected to appear at the Beijing Auto Show in April next year.

At the level of AI computing power, Qualcomm Smart Capsule chip SA8295P is the strongest computing chip announced so far, using 5nm process technology, is the world's first car specification-level 5nm chip, AI computing power reached 30Tops. The Qualcomm smart class chips SA8155P and SA8195P both use a 7nm process, and the NPU of the 8155 hashrate reaches 4TOPS.

Functionally, compared with the 3rd generation of intelligent cockpit, the 4th generation Snapdragon digital cockpit platform supports the integration of multiple ECUs and domains, including dashboard and cockpit, augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD), information video, rear seat display, rearview mirror replacement (electronic rearview mirror) and in-vehicle monitoring services. The platform also supports the Soft SKU feature of Gaotong-to-Cloud Services, which allows consumers to continuously obtain the latest features throughout the entire cycle of the car through OTA (over-the-air download technology).

As you can see, the interactivity of smart cockpits in the automotive industry is becoming more and more important.

In December 2019, at the second Chongli Forum, Baidu founder, chairman and CEO Robin Li said in his speech, "In the next decade, I have a judgment: our dependence on mobile phones will be reduced, and it will gradually decrease. Why? Think about it, when you enter your car for example, your car has a screen larger than your mobile phone, your car has a very high-grade speaker, and your car will have a variety of cameras and sensors in the future... Your interaction with the car becomes more natural. ”

The trend of intelligent interaction has gradually become clear, and the basis of this trend lies first and foremost in chip manufacturing.

With a large number of traditional mobile phone chip manufacturers in the market such as Samsung, Qualcomm, MediaTek, Huawei pouring into the automotive chip manufacturing industry, traditional automotive Soc chip manufacturers such as NXP, Renesas, Texas Instruments and other competitive pressure increased, the automotive industry is also entering the era of high-computing chips.

It is understood that the traditional chip manufacturer Intel A3590, using 14nm process technology, CPU hash rate of 42K, GPU hash rate of 187GFLOPS, cooperative car companies have Tesla, Great Wall, Hongqi and BMW, Volvo, etc.; domestic Weilai, Xiaopeng use Qualcomm smart capsule chips, ideally use Qualcomm, Texas Instruments and Horizon three chips at the same time.

According to Autohome data, the global smart cockpit industry market size has grown from $3.9 billion in 2016 to $44.7 billion in 2020 and is expected to reach $68.1 billion by 2030. A larger market size means more business opportunities, and for more car companies, the "core race" stage of automobiles may also be coming.
