Xia and Shun

In the autumn of 1982, Suzhou friends helped Mr. Xie Guozhen to carve two chapters, one of which was Qingtian Stone, and the Yang text "Guati An Lord" was engraved on it. I heard that Mr. Xie was going to Shanghai in September, and my friend entrusted Deng Yunxiang to hand it over. "When I got this stone seal, it was the day mr. Daoshan returned, how did this make me deliver it?" Deng Yunxiang said. That day was September 4.

Xie Guozhen (1901-1982), the character Gang Lord, the name of the jai "Guati An". Why is it called "Guati'an"? Xie Guozhen once explained in a preface:

"My family's original cold vegetarian, in order to run for food and clothing, pension and feeding, had to save money and thrift. Occasionally, I got a little fee, and I was able to buy some sporadic books one after another, and as for rare books, Jiazhu famous copies, I naturally couldn't afford to buy them. I can only pick up some people to abandon me to take, zero pieces of feathers, just like buying melons, people get some good melon treasures, I am just picking up some guati, so the name of the bookstore, which used to be bought by salary and manuscript fees, was called 'Maid Bookstore', and later it was simply called 'Guati An', which is worthy of the name. ”

Xie Guozhen also has a nickname called "Xie Sanyuan". The so-called "three yuan" is three yuan, because he specially picks cheap books to buy, if the price exceeds 3 yuan, he will consciously put it down after turning it over. In the eyes of ordinary people, "Xie Sanyuan" is a pejorative meaning, but Shang Chuan, a disciple of Xie Guozhen and a researcher at the Institute of History of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, has another saying: "The teacher has good eyesight and the ability to bargain, and according to the price level at that time, three yuan is not cheap." ”

There was once a joke among the booksellers in LiuliChang: one day, Xie Guozhen came to visit the factory, walked around and was hungry, touched his pocket, and forgot to bring money. What to do? Only to see him not hurried into a bookstore, with the acquaintance of the guy to ask for a worthless book, and then went to another bookstore, with the treasurer about the book's allusions, the treasurer is very interested, buy the book. Xie Guozhen easily used the price difference in exchange for a bowl of fried sauce noodles.

Xie Guozhen's "cutting the door" is also confirmed in Wang Zilin's diary. On the evening of January 25, 1959, Xie Guozhen and Ye Feng went to the Liuli Factory to read a book in The Pavilion. Ye Feng said that he had bought He Zhuo's collection of books, "Four People's Concerts in the Early Qing Dynasty," and asked him to buy his books; Xie Guozhen wanted to change the "Collection of Wang Youcheng" because his books were broken. Wang Zilin further commented: "This jun is still old, taking advantage of it and not changing. There is one thing, that is, meeting is the predecessor, visit, greeting and other terms, which are not easy to accept, and the ears are numb. "Good learning and kindness, this is Xie Guozhen's advantage."

In his later years, Xie Guozhen was still addicted to books, "still old". In 1980, he bought a copy of the Guangxu Early Year Engraving "HuQing Yutang Medicine Catalogue" in Hangzhou, spent only fifty cents, was overjoyed, and wrote to Deng Yunxiang, greatly boasting that others did not know how to buy such a book, did not understand its social value, and did not understand its historical value. In the first month of the lunar calendar in 1982, the weather in Jiangnan was extremely cold, Mr. Xie took a trip to Suzhou, went to Wujiang Library to read books, visited Xuanmiaoguan to eat oil tofu noodle soup, and drank old wine at a friend's house... When I was about to get on the train, I took a detour to a used bookstore and bought a copy of the original Yan Retranslation "TheOry of Heavenly Speech" for one yuan and five corners. While flipping through Wu Rulun's preface, he smiled and told his friend that the harvest was already rich enough when he came to Suzhou this time, and he did not want to get an unexpected harvest before leaving.
