Huzhou during the Republic of China period is undoubtedly the highlight of history. From funding Sun Yat-sen's movement to dominating the list of influential people, Huzhou has made a splash. Chen Qimei, second Chen uncle and nephew, to Zhang Renjie, Dai Jitao, and even Liao Zhongkai were also born in Huzhou.

On June 10, 1937, "New Huzhou" was founded and distributed by The Lake Society. In 1924, Dai Jitao, Chen Qishi, Chen Guofu, Pan Gongzhan and Yang Pusheng initiated the establishment of the Hushe Society, which is a hometown group of Huzhou people living in Shanghai, with the purpose of "upholding justice, studying and building undertakings, promoting local autonomy, supporting the education of civilians, and handling the public welfare of the same township", and set up branches in Wuxing, Nanjing, Wuhan and Suzhou, and communication offices in Jiaxing and Yongjia.
