Beijing News (Reporter Zuo Lin) On November 19, a reporter from the Beijing News learned from Lao Shengqiao, the second brother of Lao Rongzhi, that they had entrusted lawyers Wu Danhong and Zhao Defang of Beijing AIA Law Firm to defend Lao Rongzhi's second-instance trial, and one of the lawyers had met with Lao Rongzhi on the afternoon of November 10. On the evening of the 19th, lawyer Zhao Defang confirmed the news to the Beijing News reporter.

On the evening of the 19th, Lao Shengqiao told the Beijing News that on November 5, he received a call from the Jiangxi Provincial High People's Court and got the news that he could meet with Lao Rongzhi. Because he had contacted lawyer Wu Danhong before, he entrusted two lawyers to defend Lao Rongzhi's second-instance trial on the 9th. On the afternoon of the 10th, lawyer Zhao Defang met with Lao Rongzhi at the Nanchang No. 1 Detention Center, and during the meeting, Lao Rongzhi signed and confirmed the entrustment agreement.

Zhao Defang said that on the 11th, he had gone to the Jiangxi Provincial High People's Court to submit Lao Rongzhi's entrustment agreement. Because they had just taken over the case, when they met, the two sides did not talk much about the case. Mr. Lau said he had been coerced by Fa Ziying and did not want to be sentenced to death.

The Beijing News previously reported that on September 9, the Nanchang Intermediate People's Court publicly pronounced a verdict in the first instance on the case of Lao Rongzhi's intentional homicide, robbery and kidnapping in accordance with the law. For the crimes of intentional homicide, robbery, and kidnapping, Lao Rongzhi was sentenced to death, deprived of political rights for life, and had all his personal property confiscated. Mr. Lau appealed in court.

On September 17, a reporter from the Beijing News learned from the first-instance legal aid lawyer that Lao Rongzhi had submitted an appeal. On September 15, Lao Rongzhi's family entrusted two illegal aid lawyers to serve as criminal defenders in the second-instance trial of The Lao Rongzhi case. On September 27, a reporter from the Beijing News learned from the above-mentioned retained lawyer that the Jiangxi Provincial High People's Court had formally filed the appeal on September 23.
