According to the Russian Satellite News Agency quoted by the Russian "Kommersk" newspaper, foreign students will be able to obtain temporary residence permits for the entire period of study in Russia.
The Bill to Simplify the Stay of Foreign Students in Russia was passed on the first reading of the State Duma. At present, university students are granted temporary residence permits within the quotas established by the Russian Government in accordance with the general principle, which is valid for three years.
According to reports, a document drawn up by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs will allow the issuance of temporary residence permits for the entire period of study and for the next 180 days based on the application of foreign students. In addition, foreign students will have the right to obtain a residence permit of the Russian Federation within three years after graduation with a simplified procedure. The explanatory note to the bill says 265056 foreign students registered as immigrants in 2020.
According to the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, about 300,000 overseas students study in Russia. Most foreign students come from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and China.
