On November 18, Xin Deyong, a professor in the Department of History at Peking University, published "< Wenshi Zhe> on his Personal WeChat public account. According to the article, the abstract of a new article in the academic journal WenShizhe mentions that "Xin Deyong's "Making Emperor Wu of Han" believes that in order to oppose Wang Anshi's change of law, Sima Guang deliberately used the implausible "Han Wu Story" in the Zizhi Tongjian, creating a false political image of Emperor Wu in his later years. This article questions this. ”

Xin Deyong refuted this in the article, and his book "Making Emperor Wu of Han" did not express the meaning that Sima Guang "deliberately "created a false political image of Emperor Wu in his later years in order to oppose Wang Anshi's change of law".

On November 18, The Paper (www.thepaper.cn) found that the above-mentioned controversial paper was entitled "Sima Guang's Academic Logic and the Tang and Song Dynasties' Views on Emperor Wudi of Han: Reading < Creating the > of Emperor Wudi of Han", published in Wenshizhe No. 6, published on November 5, 2021. At present, the paper can still be searched and visible on the website of Wenshi Zhe.

In the paper, the author, Lin Hu, an associate researcher at the Institute of Ancient History of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, wrote: "In 2014, Mr. Xin Deyong published a long article in the Journal of Tsinghua University entitled "The Political Orientation of Emperor Wu of Han in His Later Years and the Reconstruction of Sima Guang", believing that Sima Guang deliberately used the untrustworthy "Story of Han Wu" in the "Zizhi Tongjian" in order to promote his political views, creating a political image of Emperor Wu of Han in his later years that did not conform to historical facts. The article was subsequently published in 2015 by Sanlian Bookstore (republished in 2018) entitled "Making the Han Wudi ——— By the Shaping of the Political Image of the Han wudi in his later years< The Historical Construction of the Zizhi Tongjian >". ”

Based on the above judgment, the paper questioned: "First of all, the relevant parts of the General Review were completed before Wang Anshi's transformation. Secondly, Xin Shi's (i.e., Xin Deyong's) understanding of the Book of Han is suspected of being biased. Third, Emperor Wu repented in his last years, which was the common view of people in the Tang and Song dynasties. Fourth, the two examples of changes in Sima Guang's views cited by Xin Shi cannot be established. Fifth, the record of the political differences between Emperor Wu of Han and Crown Prince Jian in the Tongjian is derived from the "Story of Han Wu", which is not an indisputable conclusion, and Xin's interpretation of Lü Zuqian's "Chronicles", Wang Yizhi's "Years of the Western Han Dynasty" and Wang Yi's "Continuation of the Chronicles" have room for discussion. ”

Xin Deyong did not agree with Lin Hu's summary of his views in the above paper, and he explained in the WeChat public account article: "Although it is mentioned in "Making Emperor Wu of Han" that 'Sima Guang also cited the measures of Emperor Zhao of Han after he took the throne to change his course than Emperor Zhu Wu's', but this is only used to illustrate Sima Guang's attitude towards Emperor Wu of Han's tyrannical behavior towards Emperor Wu of Han's tyrannical behavior, which is the same as Sima Guang's 'deliberate attempt to oppose Wang Anshi's change of law' The creation of a false political image of Emperor Wu in his later years' is two completely different things. ”

He stressed in the article, "It should be noted that whether it is Sima Guang or Wang Anshi, their governing philosophy and the confrontation between the two in this regard did not arise suddenly from the moment when Wang Anshi specifically implemented the new law, that is, the so-called 'change of law', but had been formed for a long time before this, and it has been maintained since Wang Anshi's 'change of law', so I will cite the historical events after Wang Anshi's 'change of law' to illustrate Sima Guang's political attitude, which is the same as the so-called Sima Guang 'deliberately in order to oppose Wang Anshi's change of law'. Creating a false political image of Emperor Wu in his later years' is an unrelated two-fold thing! ”

He rebuked the Wenshizhe journal, which published the above-mentioned paper, saying, "The discussion of this thing adopted by the editorial board of Wenshizhe is purely out of nothing, that is, distorting the facts, forcibly fabricating a point of view and planting it on my head, and then arbitrarily tarting it." ”

For Xin Deyong's questioning, the editorial staff of Wenshizhe said in response to the surging news on the 18th that the author of the paper published the paper on the platform, and the views in the paper only represented the author, and there was no direct connection with the platform view, and the author had the right to publish the article.

The staff also said that each paper is strictly reviewed and tri-proofed before publication, the paper is published in full compliance, we have no way to require every author and reader to have the same point of view, (each) a reader reads an article with his own opinion, which is a matter of benevolence and wisdom.

According to public information, Wenshi zhe was founded on May 1, 1951, which is a veteran journal that reflects the academic standards of liberal arts in Chinese mainland universities, and has a high reputation in the field of humanities at home and abroad.
