The question is not as simple as it sounds. If you're taking a portrait, then it's clear that the person you're taking is the subject of the photo. Any other element in the scene needs to serve the subject, direct the viewer's attention to this point, and eliminate interference from other elements to the subject as much as possible. But when you are shooting a landscape subject, the main body of the picture is the water near the distant mountain? Or the flowers and flowers in the foreground?
Remember! Guiding the eye to the clearest area of the image (subject) through a large aperture shallow depth of field, blurring the clutter of the background, is one of the most commonly used technical means to make the subject stand out in portrait photography.
The easiest way to strengthen the subject is to enlarge the filled composition, weakening the background while strengthening the subject's proportion in the composition, making it the center of people's attention. We can achieve this effect by shooting closer to the subject or by using a longer focal length, and if the resolution is large enough, we can also crop the image in post-processing to achieve filling. The composition of the main body filling also has certain defects, the audience can only see the subject in the picture, so this will lose the connection with the background, can not form a picture narrative, more suitable for close-up and macro subject shooting.
In some specific scenes, the composition of the subject can also be used to attract more attention by isolating the subject through the framework. In the actual shooting, we can shoot through the frames generated by doors or windows, or we can shoot through the formal frames composed of certain elements, such as the use of frames formed by branches or flowers in the garden, or the use of books around the edges of the image in the library, which can both highlight the subject and better explain the narrative environment.
Changing the shooting angle around the theme movement is also a practical technique to eliminate the background clutter and highlight the subject. If possible, try it out from different directions through the viewfinder to choose the best angle, of course, this is not limited to the front, back, left and right, high and low angles of view will also bring about a very different shooting effect.
Low Angle: Shooting from a lower perspective from the bottom up, the sky or building will become the main form of natural simplicity. This technique can also be used in travel photography to allow the subject to stand in a higher position and avoid clutter of tourists or crowds by shooting up.
High Angle: Shooting from top to bottom from a higher perspective, the ground will become the main form of natural and simple background. Of course, the high viewing angle has a certain demand for the scene, and it is best to choose a visually simple and natural scene such as grass or beach.
People always like to understand the scene they are seeing in the simplest way possible.
