What are the origins and meanings of ancient dynastic state names?

author:Liu Xunzhi

The origin of the name of the country is nothing more than: the place of origin, the knighthood, the meaning, the name of the family.

Here are examples of the nine major regimes that ruled China:

Qin, derived from the title of Knight (Qin's ancestor Feizi was enfeoffed in Qin);

Han, derived from the title of Knight (Xiang Yuan, liu Bang, the Duke of Pei, was made king of Han in the Land of Bashu Han);

Jin, derived from the title of Duke (Sima Zhaofeng King of Jin, his son Sima Yan (司馬炎嗣爵), was called Emperor Sui with Jin as the state name);

Sui , derived from the title of Duke of Sui (杨忠封隨国公, his son Yang Jiansi (杨健嗣), was enfeoffed as the King of Sui and called the Empress Dowager , with Sui as the state name. Note: simplified words that follow);

Tang ,derived from the title of Duke of Tang (Li Hu posthumously enfeoffed the Duke of Tang, and when it passed to his grandson Li Yuan, he became the Prince of Tang and claimed that the empress dowager took Tang as the state name);

Song, from the place of origin (Zhao Kuangyin was the envoy of the Later Zhou Guide Festival, stationed in Song Prefecture);

Yuan, derived from the meaning (taken from the I Ching "DaZha Qianyuan");

Ming, derived from the meaning (most likely also from the I Ching "Daming always");

Qing, derived from the meaning (meaning is unknown).

Others, such as the Xiongnu, Xianbei, Turkic, Mongol, Khitan, etc., are named after their clans.

Of the nine unified regimes that ruled China, the Song Ming Yuan, and Qing Dynasty were indeed two-character Chinese names with large characters. However, it was not the first of the Mongols, before that, during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, several of the Northern Wuhu regimes were double-character state names with the character "big". Since the five dynasties, almost all the Han Chinese state names have been double-charactered country names with large characters.

By searching for ancient books, it is completely consistent.
