The annual GDP of trillion-level cities will be expanded to 24

According to the statistics of the first financial reporter, the sum of the GDP of the top 50 cities in the first three quarters of this year has reached 44.2 trillion yuan, accounting for 53.7% of the national GDP.

Among them, 35 cities had a GDP of more than 500 billion yuan in the first three quarters, and 14 cities had a GDP of more than one trillion yuan in the first three quarters, namely Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Suzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Nanjing, Tianjin, Ningbo, Qingdao and Wuxi.

In the first three quarters, Shanghai's GDP took the lead in breaking through 3 trillion yuan, at 3,086.673 billion yuan, an increase of 9.8% over the same period last year at comparable prices, and an average growth of 4.6% in two years. Beijing's GDP in the first three quarters was 2,975.30 billion yuan, and it is also approaching the 3 trillion mark, an increase of 10.7% year-on-year and an average growth of 5.3% in two years. According to the proportion of the whole year in the fourth quarter of previous years, the annual GDP of Shanghai and Beijing is expected to exceed 4 trillion yuan.

The development of emerging industries in both cities is very eye-catching. Among them, in the first three quarters, the total output value of Shanghai's industrial strategic emerging industries increased by 15.9% year-on-year, which was 2.6 percentage points higher than the total industrial output value on the regulations. Among them, the output value of new energy vehicles, digital creativity and new energy increased by 2.3 times, 29.2% and 27.2% respectively year-on-year, highlighting the development speed of innovative economy.

South China's first-tier city Shenzhen achieved a GDP of 2,767.024 billion yuan in 2020, and the city achieved a GDP of 2,179.118 billion yuan in the first three quarters of this year, according to the proportion of the fourth quarter of previous years, it is expected that the annual GDP of Shenzhen is expected to exceed the 3 trillion yuan mark.

Guangzhou's GDP in the first three quarters also exceeded 2 trillion yuan, reaching 2002.912 billion yuan, continuing to rank fourth. The GDP of Chongqing in the first three quarters of the fifth place reached 1,995.189 billion yuan, and the gap with Guangzhou was only 7.7 billion yuan. Compared with Guangzhou's lead over Chongqing by nearly 20 billion yuan in the first half of the year, the gap has further narrowed. Therefore, throughout the year, whether Guangzhou can maintain the fourth position is still in suspense.

Peng Peng, executive director of the Guangdong Provincial Structural Reform Research Association, analyzed the first financial reporter that Chongqing has a population of more than 30 million and an area of 82,400 square kilometers, equivalent to a medium province. The population, area, and surrounding hinterland are much larger than Guangzhou, and there is a lot of room for maneuvering. Although the support of Chongqing's traditional pillar industries has gradually weakened, in recent years, the industrial structure is also adjusting, emerging industries are also in the layout, the growth momentum is very strong, the staying power is very strong, so in the long run, it is normal to surpass Guangzhou in the future.

Including Guangzhou, Chongqing and Suzhou, the annual GDP is expected to continue to be in the 2 trillion echelon. In addition, in the first three quarters of this year, a total of 24 cities have a GDP of more than 750 billion yuan, and it is expected that 24 cities will have a GDP of more than one trillion yuan throughout the year, that is, 1 will be added to the 23 last year, and the new finalist will be Dongguan.

Data show that in 2020, Dongguan will achieve a GDP of 965.019 billion yuan, only 35 billion yuan away from the trillion mark. In the first three quarters of this year, Dongguan achieved a GDP of 769.462 billion yuan, an increase of 9.1% year-on-year, an average growth of 4.5% in two years, according to the current speed, this year's breakthrough trillion yuan is very likely.

Foreign trade exports are crucial to the economy of Dongguan, the "world factory". Data show that in the first three quarters, Dongguan's total import and export volume was 1,126.63 billion yuan, an increase of 16.4% year-on-year, and an average growth of 6.7% in two years. Among them, exports were 698.05 billion yuan, an increase of 17.1%, and an average growth of 6.6% in two years.

The stars of the Yangtze River Delta shine

From the perspective of the provincial distribution of the top 50 cities in the first three quarters, Jiangsu, the second largest economic province, has the most, and 9 of the 13 districted cities have entered the top 50, of which 4 cities have entered the top 20, namely Suzhou, Nanjing, Wuxi and Nantong; Suzhou and Nanjing rank in the top 10.

After Jiangsu, Zhejiang, the fourth largest economic province in the Yangtze River Delta, also has 7 cities in the top 50. Together with Shanghai and Hefei, Anhui, a total of 18 cities in the entire Yangtze River Delta region rank among the top 50, accounting for more than one-third.

The Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration is the largest and most economically developed urban agglomeration in China, and it is also one of the most clear and complete urban agglomerations in several major urban agglomerations in China - from megacities and leading cities Shanghai to megacities Hangzhou and Nanjing, type I large cities Suzhou, Hefei, Ningbo, Wuxi, type II large cities Yangzhou, Shaoxing, etc., Top 100 counties Kunshan, Yiwu, Jiangyin, etc., economic towns Zhenze, Zhili, Chongfu, etc., the entire urban agglomeration level is reasonable and clear.

In addition, the Yangtze River Delta not only has a strong economy, but also has a rapid economic growth this year. From the perspective of growth rate, considering that the first three quarters of 2020 are greatly affected by the epidemic, the average growth rate of the two years is more measurable. However, it should be pointed out that in the first three quarters, the two-year average growth rate of some cities has not yet been released.

From the perspective of the published cities, the data shows that the growth rate of many economically strong cities in the Yangtze River Delta is eye-catching, of which the average growth rate of Suzhou, Hangzhou and Nantong has reached 6.6%, the growth rate of Wuxi and Hefei has reached 6.5%, Changzhou has reached 7%, Shaoxing has reached 6.3%, and Jiaxing has reached 6.4%.

Ding Changfa, associate professor of the Department of Economics of Xiamen University, analyzed the first finance and economics that in recent years, the integration of the Yangtze River Delta has been deepening, the division of labor and collaboration between various cities in the Yangtze River Delta has been enhanced, including the continuous improvement of hardware infrastructure such as high-speed rail, and the further agglomeration of capital, technology, talents and other elements to the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration. At the same time, the Yangtze River Delta is very rich in higher education resources, has a large number of talents, and the development of high-tech industries and emerging industries is very prominent.

From the perspective of regional distribution, the number of other major urban agglomerations in the top 50 is quite different from that in the Yangtze River Delta.

Among them, in addition to the three major coastal economic circles, only 2 cities in the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Circle, which is expected to become the fourth pole of China's economic development, have been shortlisted, namely Chongqing and Chengdu, both of which are megacities with urban populations of more than 10 million, and the total GDP ranks among the top ten in the country.

However, in addition to these two major cities, other cities in the Chengdu-Chongqing area have a large gap with the top 50 cities, simply put, the urban structure of the chengdu-Chongqing twin-city economic circle is "big enough, but small is too small." The unreasonable urban scale structure and the low degree of coordination of the industrial chain division of labor are a major shortcoming in the current Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Circle, and this area needs to accelerate the expansion and strengthening of regional central cities in the future.

In October this year, Sichuan Province decided to adjust a number of provincial-level administrative functions and powers by Chengdu City and seven regional central cities of Luzhou City, Deyang City, Mianyang City, Leshan City, Nanchong City, Yibin City and Dazhou City. This move is conducive to promoting the construction of provincial economic sub-centers in regional center cities through policy release.
