Written accounts of the "Dresden" green diamond date back to a Newspaper in London in 1722, when the price of £1,000 did not allow the diamond to be successfully traded.

At the Leipzig Fair in 1741, King Auguste of Poland bought this high-quality green diamond for a large sum of money. Subsequently, at Auguste's will, the green diamond was combined with the 49.71 ct "Dresden" white diamond to be set in a gold wool ornament. After many turns, the "Dresden" green diamond appeared on the decoration of the hat, and a large number of small diamonds were also adorned.

After World War II, the "Dresden" green diamond was brought back to Moscow by the Soviet government as a trophy, and after a period of displacement, it was returned in 1958.

From October 2000 to January 2001, the "Dresden" green diamond and the "Hope" diamond were exhibited together at the Smithsonian Institution, with a unique charm.

The "Dresden" green diamond is the representative of the green diamond, its value is difficult to measure, and people still talk about it today. Although the weight of 40.70 carats is not the largest diamond, it is the largest green diamond that no one in the world can surpass because of its extremely rare green color.

Confusing origin theory

The origins of the "Dresden" Green Diamond are mysterious. It is said to have been discovered in India in the 18th century and weighs 119.50 carats in rough. India is the first country in the world to discover diamonds, and the "Hope" diamond with mysterious blue that we introduced earlier is produced in Golconda and watersheds in India. However, there is no definite basis for this understanding at present.

Although India has produced some world-famous diamonds that have caused a sensation in the world, the entire country's diamond production is not very large. The discovery of diamonds in Brazil for the first time in the 1720s, followed by a series of diamond mines, led to a sharp increase in the production of diamonds in Brazil, when Brazil gradually replaced India as the world's leading diamond producer. Therefore, some people think that the "Dresden" green diamond may be produced in Brazil.

According to sources, King Auguste of Poland bought the diamond from a Dutch merchant. From the 17th century to the 19th century, Amsterdam in the Netherlands played a pivotal role in the global diamond processing industry, and it was here that the famous Cullinan diamond was processed. At that time, a large number of rough diamonds produced in Brazil were also continuously sent here for processing, and it is said that this may also be an important point for inferring the origin of "Dresden" green diamonds.

Regarding the origin of Dresden, people have been eager to verify it. One thing is for sure, the green of the "Dresden" green diamond, which is transparent and green, will surely impress those who have seen it.

So, how did the "Dresden" green diamond produce its rich and beautiful colors? Why do other colored diamonds have different colors?
