On November 12, the board of directors of Chinese Insurance issued an announcement that Zhang Tao was appointed deputy secretary of the party committee of Chinese Insurance.
According to public information, Zhang Tao is a former vice president of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) who stepped down after his term ended in August this year. During his time at the IMF, he was responsible for the IMF's operations in some 90 countries and policy issues related to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing, climate change, fintech, anti-sexism, statistics, etc. He was also responsible for the IMF's work on the Financial Sector Assessment Programme and information technology, as well as for coordination with other international organizations, including UN agencies.
Tao Holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in International Economics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, a Master of Finance and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University in Beijing. He has held various senior positions at Chinese Bank and Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund for China, and previously held various senior positions at Chinese Bank, where he worked at the World Bank headquarters and the Asian Development Bank headquarters.
