In 2019, the houses near Yibin People's Square were demolished, and the square that has accompanied Yibin citizens for more than 60 years finally ushered in an upgrade.
As the largest sports and fitness place in the old city, People's Square has always been the first choice for many citizens to exercise. At the same time, it is also the main venue for many enterprises and schools to hold sports meetings.
After the upgrading, People's Square will focus on solving three major facts: people's square sports venues, traffic problems on Renmin Road and Zhenwu Road (traffic jams, parking and other prominent problems), and citizens' demands for quality leisure business.
In August this year, at the site of the People's Square upgrading project, it was seen that the general outline of the transformed square had been revealed, the construction area was all enclosed with high standards, and the workers were carrying out the main construction of the project.
It is reported that the project covers an area of about 70.26 acres, planning and design of 1 standard stadium, 1 11-a-side football field, 1 5-a-side football field, 4 gateball courts, 3 basketball courts, 1 tennis court, 1 children's sports field; 1 grandstand (701 seats) and supporting rooms for sports conferences, 2 parking lots; In addition, a new elevated covered bridge is connected to Cuiping Mountain Park, and various projects are currently being carried out in an orderly manner.
The on-site construction party informed that the entire renovation project is expected to be completed by the end of December this year.
On January 23, 2021, the Yibin Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources and Planning issued the "Announcement of the Concept Design Competition of the Cultural and Sports Center in the East District of the South Bank", in order to effectively meet the increasingly diverse public cultural service needs of the public, the Yibin Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government decided to upgrade the existing Yibin Municipal Library, Jiudu Theater and Sports Center with great determination and boldness.
The Yibin Cultural and Sports Center project (formerly South Bank Library, Jiudu Theater, Sports Center) takes "Chuannan Center, Provincial Benchmark" as the positioning, creating a comprehensive cultural circle integrating reading, education, exchange, training, performance, exhibition, cultural creation, fitness and other functions.
In this way, in the future, the old city will have an upgraded People's Square (Yibin People's Square Sports Park), and the South Bank East District will have an Yibin Cultural and Sports Center; In addition, a new national fitness center will be built in the southern new area, located near the South Silk Road and Zhai Wan Road.
In the future, the national fitness center will be open to the public, providing fitness venues and community services for surrounding residences, and also sharing resources with surrounding schools in sports venues, including 50m standard swimming pools, indoor venues and other sports venues.
