The story of "Sima Guang smashing the cylinder" believes that friends have heard it, sima Guang was in a hurry after his companion fell into the water, and he used a large stone to smash the water tank to successfully rescue his companion. When I was a child, due to inaccurate pronunciation, I often read it as "Sima Cylinder Smashing Light", which made a lot of jokes. This also contributed to my deep impression of Sima Guang. He loved history and loved to read "Zuo Shi Chunqiu", which lasted nineteen years and finally wrote the "Zizhi Tongjian", an immortal masterpiece of Chinese historiography alongside the "History". The Zizhi Tongjian records the history of the Sixteen dynasties in 1362 from the twenty-third year of King Weilie of Zhou (403 BC) to the sixth year of Emperor Xiande of Zhou Shizong (959 AD) five generations later. Its content is mainly political, military and ethnic relations, as well as economic, cultural and evaluation of historical figures. The book has always been valued by people and is a must-read for reading and learning history.

The believer, the great treasure of the king. The state is protected by the people, and the people are protected by faith. There is no way to make the people without faith, and there is no way for the people to defend the country. He who is the king of the ancients does not deceive the four seas, the hegemon does not deceive his neighbors, the good one who serves the country does not deceive his people, and the one who is good at his family does not deceive his relatives. The unkind do the opposite: they deceive their neighbors, they deceive their people, and even they deceive their brothers, and they deceive their fathers and sons. The upper does not believe in the lower, the lower does not believe in the upper, the upper and lower centrifugal, so that it fails. From the names of ancient official positions such as "Assassin History", "Jiedu Envoy", "Shangshu", "Taishou", "Shilang", "Dudu", "Xiang Xiang", to the titles of "Khitan", "Shan Yu", "Xiongnu", "Turkic", "Tubo", "Khan" and other "foreign enemies" of the Central Plains Dynasty, we can see the flow and change of the long river of history. Song Shenzong once commented that this book "in view of the past, there are funds to govern the Tao", which is the so-called "taking history as a mirror, we can know the rise and fall".
