Lu Xuewu, director of the Solid Waste and Chemicals Division of the Department of Ecology and Environment of Gansu Province, introduced that the five coordinated emergency disposal facilities that have been used, including domestic waste incineration facilities and industrial furnaces. The relevant units formulated the medical waste treatment process and related plans before the opening of the facilities, and conducted drills, and strengthened the disinfection work and personnel protection after the opening.

"Domestic garbage is generally stored for several days and then treated, while medical waste is disposed of on the same day through fast lanes, avoiding secondary pollution." Lu Xuewu said. At present, there are still 12 medical waste collaborative emergency disposal facilities in Gansu that have not yet been opened.

In addition to improving disposal capacity, Gansu has also strengthened the collection capacity of medical waste. The Department of Ecology and Environment of Gansu Province arranged a special fund of 928,000 yuan to urgently purchase a batch of epidemic protection materials to supplement various localities.

Lanzhou is the city with the largest number of confirmed cases found in Gansu during this round of the epidemic. The Department of Ecology and Environment of Gansu Province allocated 10,000 medical waste transfer boxes, 40,000 leak-proof bags, and 500 sets of protective clothing from the purchased materials to supplement Lanzhou City, and dispatched 7 medical waste transfer vehicles and 880 medical waste transfer boxes to Lanzhou, which greatly alleviated the pressure of medical waste transfer in Lanzhou.

For the isolation points that have been activated, the on-site sampling and monitoring of the total residual chlorine of domestic sewage is carried out every day to ensure that the isolation points can achieve secondary disinfection of domestic sewage.
