In rare cases, the hunting knife may also become a hunting weapon. But for the most part, we don't hunt directly with a knife, because there's a clear drawback: you have to be close enough to the prey to stab it; of course, if you have the skill of the Little Li Flying Knife, it's a different story. However, the use of knives as hunting tools did exist in human history.

The knife is one of the oldest weapons of mankind. In the Stone Age, our ancestors would collect various wedge-shaped stones as blades. Later, knives made from animal bones and shells gradually appeared. The use of knives as hunting tools, at least until the time of ancient Egypt, when the ancient Egyptians for the first time installed the blade on the wooden handle. By the time of ancient Greece, copper blades had been widely used in Eurasia. By the time of ancient Rome, the blade of steel blades was already common. To this day, steel is the mainstream material for knife making.
Knife hunting of wild boar is one of the most unique hunting methods for Australian bushmen. When hunting, two or three hounds are usually brought with them, and the hunters will check for traces of wild boars based on experience and search in areas where wild boars may be infested. Good hounds can smell wild boars from several kilometers away, and the distance from the hunting dogs to the final hunting of wild boars can be as long as 2 kilometers (usually hundreds of meters). When a hound smells a wild boar, it usually reminds its owner with a low roar of no more than three seconds (unlike the usual dog barking), then stops making any barking and rushes towards the spot where the wild boar is found at a very fast speed.
After seeing a wild boar, the hounds will drive the wild boar into the open area to prepare for battle. Two hounds will cooperate with each other, one chasing and intimidating the wild boar, and the other swooping up and biting the ear of the wild boar, which is also one of the most dangerous moments for the hound, and the dog will be stabbed by the pig's teeth if it is not careful. At this time, another hound will also take the opportunity to bite the other ear of the wild boar, and the two hounds will drag the wild boar to death, waiting for the arrival of the owner. At this point, the hunter should follow the hound as quickly as possible and arrive at the scene.
After the hound restrains the wild boar, the hunter can use two methods to hunt according to the situation. The first is to grab the two hind legs of the wild boar, causing the wild boar to lose its balance and fall to the ground, and then the hunter quickly grabs the right front leg of the wild boar and holds the wild boar with his knees, so that it is four feet facing the sky, and at the same time issues an order to make the hound loose or no longer drag the wild boar, and quickly pulls out the hunting knife and plunges into the wild boar heart area of no more than ten square centimeters between the right front leg and the head of the wild boar, a fatal knife. Usually, if the technique is correct, the wild boar will die within ten seconds. Such a fatal knife is not only for the safety of the hunter himself, but also to prevent the animal from suffering more, which is one of the principles of moral hunting.
The second way to assassinate a wild boar is to grab the right hind leg of the wild boar with one hand, and then use a hunting knife to quickly stab the heart or nearby parts of the wild boar, generally no more than three times, and after the boar's blood loss weakens (generally no more than twenty seconds), and then like the first method, quickly flip over and hold the wild boar, a fatal knife. The second method is often due to terrain limitations, or the ferocity of the wild boar is abnormal, or the hounds are unable to stop the wild boar.
While hunting with dogs is much easier, some hunters also go out without dogs or only with dogs trained to drive wild boars rather than bite them. In this case, the hunter will generally wait for the boar to attack, and then face its attack, pushing it to the ground and stabbing it, which has a higher difficulty factor and danger factor.
Regardless of the method used to hunt wild boars, the courage, skill, will and physical strength of the hunter are extremely demanding. But that's what makes it so appealing – challenging and exciting enough! In the face of such a high-risk and difficult hunt, hunters must be fully prepared before they can act.
