Recently, archaeologist Gabriel Prieto excavated the remains of a "birdman."

The site of discovery is in the Cultural District of Pampa La Cruz in Huanchaco, a seaside town in northern Peru where 227 sacrificial remains have just been excavated, so it is also considered a large sacrificial area for the Chimu people.

Before the Inca Empire ruled the central Andes, the Chimu people of South America had established a powerful kingdom, and archaeological excavations of the Chimu culture site unearthed many exquisite black pottery, gold and silver, bronze, these handmade artifacts had a significant impact on the Incas. The "Birdman" buried in the Chimu cemetery is unique in style and quite mysterious.

The newly discovered "Bird Man", presumably also a Chimu man, his bones are covered with a cloak-like "battle robe", the robe is made of red and yellow bird feathers, the length is about 1.1 meters, and the head of the remains is also covered with feather headdresses of the same style, but the color is more abundant, and the preliminary identification should have at least four colors of feathers, namely white, green, black, and yellow, which appear very bright.

The remains bear many similarities to another "birdman" found earlier, both of them have feathered headdresses and feathered battle robes, and they all use the black resin secreted by a common tree in the rainforest as a binder, and the weaving method is also very similar, but there are still some subtle differences between the two, this time the "birdman" is missing blue feathers.

According to Prieto, this was intentionally made by the Chimu people when they were made, because there are also differences in identity, function and status within the Birdman.

The current general view of who the "bird people" were was that they were priests or ritual experts who presided over the rituals of sacrifice, had the mysterious power to communicate with people and gods, and belonged to the elite of chimuri society at that time.

Combined with the sacrificed children unearthed nearby, the claim that the "bird people" were priests is also very credible, but why they were buried together is not known, perhaps these "bird people" themselves are part of the sacrifice.

The Chimu culture existed from about the 13th to the 15th century AD, and its distribution ranged from the ruins of the Back Coast of Peru to the vicinity of present-day Ecuador, and by the conquest of the Inca Empire in the late 15th century, the Chimu culture also disappeared.
