This is also the first time that the Municipal Forestry Bureau has released wild animals this year. In the future, the Municipal Forestry Bureau will release eligible wild animals from time to time. Nine national grade II protected animals returned to nature
On the afternoon of March 16, at the Shijiazhuang Wildlife Rescue Station, station manager Gao Qiong and staff transported wild animals that needed to be released to the east bank of the ring water system on the west side of Taihang Avenue.
After arriving at the release site, the staff slowly lifted the bird cage door, and 5 red rib embroidered eye birds, 1 northern suzaku, 3 suzaku, 1 yellow finch and 1 yellow-bellied flew out. Next, the black-tailed wax-billed finch, thrush and white-boned chicken also return to nature.
Finally, it was the turn of the woolly owls and the long-eared owls. They are both national second-class protected animals, but the hairy-footed owls look more ferocious and the long-eared owl look cute and cute. Only to see the staff grab the feet of the long-eared owl, take it out of the cage, and then stretch out their arms and let go of their hands, and the long-eared owl that looks like an owl jumps up, flapping its wings and flying away in an instant.
Now, only the woolly footed eagle remains. Why put it at the end? It turned out that the hairy-footed bird was a medium-sized bird of prey, and once it was released, the other birds did not dare to move. In order to ensure the safety of the release personnel, they decided to open the carton lid directly. I saw the staff trying to straighten their arms, turn their heads to the side, and carefully lift the lid of the cardboard box. Only to see a "fluttering" sound, a large dark brown bird "broke out of the box", spread its wings, and flew into the air.
It can only be released after meeting certain conditions
The wild animals released this time were all rescued by the rescue station last winter. After months of careful feeding, the bodies of these wild animals have recovered and have been successfully moulted, and the release conditions are now reached.
Migratory bird migration has begun in the spring, with a large number of migratory birds migrating from the south to the north and currently passing through Hebei. On March 10 and 11, the spring bird research team of Shijiazhuang Wildlife Rescue Station found that the black-tailed wax-billed finches and red-ribbed embroidered bird had come to Shijiazhuang in Pingshan, Luquan and Gaocheng. So they decided to release 17 eligible wild animals.
Birds have their own sense of direction, can keep up with their own kind, and go all the way north. Among the 17 wild animals released this time, including 9 national second-level protected animals, namely thrush, red rib embroidered eye bird, hairy-footed owls, long-eared owl and northern suzaku; 8 national three protected animals, namely suzaku, yellow-bellied, black-tailed wax-billed finch, yellow finch and white-boned top chicken.
Over the past year, more than 40 national first- and second-level protected animals have been rescued
According to statistics, there are 264 species of birds in the city, including 5 species of birds under national first-level key protection, 42 species of birds under national second-level key protection, and 101 species of birds under provincial key protection. In order to better protect birds, over the years, the city's forestry system has carried out targeted publicity on laws and regulations on the protection of birds and other wild animals, enhanced the awareness of bird love and bird protection in the whole society, and made the protection of wild animals a conscious action of the whole people. At the same time, various special activities have been carried out, law enforcement departments have strictly implemented various protective measures, continued to increase law enforcement supervision, severely cracked down on various types of bird-related violations, and implemented bird-loving actions.
Since 2020, it has rescued more than 40 national first- and second-level protected animals, rescued more than 2,000 protected wild birds, harmlessly treated more than 300 wild birds, and dismantled more than 100 various bird-catching nets.
Up to now, the Shijiazhuang Wildlife Rescue Station has joined hands with forestry law enforcement departments in various places to crack down on a number of illegally traded wildlife markets. Now, volunteers at the rescue station are secretly visiting various bird markets across the province, and once they find illegal trade in wild birds, they will immediately communicate with local forestry law enforcement departments to work together to crack down on illegal bird markets.
