International Online Article: According to the British "Daily Mail" reported on July 8, although Obama promised to close Guantanamo prison six years ago, the world's most controversial prison is still open, holding prisoners who have not been charged or tried. Many of the latest photographs of the interior of Guantanamo have been exposed, showing the daily lives of prisoners and U.S. military personnel inside.

This is where foreign terrorist suspects were held in the United States after the 9/11 attacks, and there was an infamous X-ray camp, and the abuse of prisoners had a huge impact on the national image of the United States. Now, an entertainment library has been built in the prison, where many Hollywood blockbusters can be found. But it still functions as a U.S. military base, reflecting the dark ages of U.S. history.

Guantanamo currently houses 149 terror suspects who pass the time every day by painting or reading. Prison guards, on the other hand, can only eat at Cuba's only McDonald's and vent their excess energy at the pétanque ballpark. It's like a suburb of america, with burger shops, Irish pubs, Starbucks cafes, radio stations, and more.

Despite Obama's promise to close Guantanamo, it remains part of a huge U.S. naval base. The base, located in eastern Cuba, was leased in 1903 by then-U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt for 2,000 gold coins, the equivalent of $4,000 (about 24,804 yuan) of rent paid to Cuba by the United States a year. The U.S. military builds a permanent naval base here.

According to a 2013 estimate, the United States spent at least $500 million (about 3.1 billion yuan) a year to maintain the facilities at Guantanamo Naval Base, while maintaining prisons cost $150 million (about 930 million yuan), making it the most expensive prison in the world. Since guantanamo opened on 11 January 2002, 779 terrorist suspects have been held there and 149 suspects from 22 countries are still in custody. (Willow)
