Ian Joseph Somerhalder (born December 8, 1978 in Louisiana) is an American actor and model.
Ian has had a great passion for acting since childhood and has always been an active member of the school's drama club. His parents divorced at the age of 13 and he lived with his mother.
In 1988, Ian began his modeling career with the encouragement of his mother. He has travelled to New York, Milan, Paris and London on the runway, where he has modeled for Brands such as Calvin Klein (CK), American Eagle Outfitters, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Versace and Guess. He was the autumn lead model for two seasons of Guess. He worked as a model for DNA Modeling in New York and at Priscilla's in Sydney, Australia.
In September 2009, Ian starred in the role of the evil, sexy, humorous vampire brother Damon Salvatore in the CW Youth Magic TV series The Vampire Diaries, a role that made him truly familiar to everyone. Also in September, Ian starred in the movie "The Killing Championship." In this film, he plays a cold-blooded killer, Miles Slater, who competes against other killers. In October, Ian starred in the Gothic film Baby Forest Thriller, directed by Harry Weinmann.
In 2000, Ian met Kate Potsworth and fell in love for the filming of the TV series Young Americans, but the relationship lasted only a few months.
In 2002, Ian fell in love with Nikki Hilton, the second lady of the Hilton family, and the relationship lasted less than a year.
In 2004, Ian and Maggie Grace met while filming the TV series Lost, and in April 2006 they came together, this time in a relationship of more than a year.
In April 2009, Ian and Ashley Greeney began a formal relationship.
In 2009, Ian became acquainted with Nina Dubov for starring in "The Vampire Diaries", and in 2011, he was photographed by the media at the Coachella Music Festival, and the relationship was officially released. In May 2013, the two broke up.
In July 2014, he was exposed to "Twilight" actress Nikki Reid. The two were engaged on January 16, 2015, and on April 25, 2015, the two were married. On July 25, 2017, the couple's first daughter was born and named Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder.
