In 1955, Wang Fuzhi was awarded the rank of colonel, and in 1964 he was promoted to major general, serving as the director of the Operations Department of the General Staff department of the Central Military Commission, the commander of the Shanxi Military Region, and the secretary of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee.
