The Berkeley School of Music was founded in 1945 in Boston, where music culture is strong, and the founder is Lawrence Berk. In 1970 it was renamed the current Berklee College of Music.
For more than half a century, the university has evolved to reflect the current state of music and the music business, leading the world's first research into jazz, rock, electric guitar, film scores, songwriting, singing, electronic music production, and more than a dozen other genres and fields.
Berkeley is the world's premier music learning lab, with students from 96 countries and 125 graduates who have won 295 Grammy Awards.
On January 20, 2016, the Berkeley School of Music and the prestigious classical music school Boston Conservatory of Music announced their formal merger in June 2016. The combination of pop and classical creates the most comprehensive and dynamic training ground in the world for music, dance, theatre and related professions. The very young and liberal learning atmosphere has made Berkeley a dream school for young students.
