Because of the ban on the sale of pig-nosed turtles, other turtles that can be raised in fish tanks have finally ushered in spring, and the largest breeding group is the yellow-headed side-necked turtle (hereinafter referred to as the yellow-headed turtle). However, many people's process of raising yellow-headed turtles is not as smooth as they think, for example, an aquarist told me that every time he buys a yellow-headed turtle, he can only raise it for a few months and then die.
In fact, this situation is not in the minority, is it that the yellow-headed turtle cannot be raised in the fish tank or that we have not found the right way? Let's talk about the things that keep yellow-headed turtles in fish tanks:
The yellow-headed side-necked turtle, also known as the macular side-necked turtle, is a tropical turtle that does not require hibernation. It can survive in deep water, so it is not uncommon in fish tanks today. Because the yellow-headed turtle will eat animal protein, and the fish feces have animal protein, the yellowhead turtle will eat ornamental fish feces. In addition to the fact that the yellow-headed turtle itself is also relatively cute, this is also the reason why it is so hot now. Who wouldn't like it when selling cuteness and cleaning up the feces of fish tanks and some food debris?
We also said above that the yellow-headed turtle can survive in deep water, so it can be kept in the fish tank. But this is the reason why many people have not been able to feed the yellow-headed turtle, because although the yellow-headed turtle is a deep-water turtle, it is not a full-water turtle in the strict sense, and it also needs warm light and sunbathing! It can even be said that there are almost no turtles that do not need a tanning table, and the only pig-nosed turtle that can be unwanted does not belong to the turtle species at all.

If people who have raised pig-nosed turtles should know that it only needs a place to rest on its stomach, it really doesn't matter if there is a sundeck, and this is very satisfying in the fish tank.
The yellow-headed turtle is not enough to focus on a place where it can lie on its stomach and expose the water, it needs a place that is away from the water and can shine light. This sentence is not nonsense, a long time ago fish farmers have done relative experiments through 10 yellow-headed turtles. When there is no tanning table, the five turtles have some signs of diseases such as soft shells in about 1-3 months according to their different constitutions. In the case of a sundeck, the yellow-headed turtle did not have any problems.

So I came to the conclusion that the sundeck is a must for raising yellow-headed turtles, and if you don't have a sundeck, you can buy a suction cup tanning table to use. Aquarists who have not had experience in turtle breeding may not know the significance of the sundeck for the turtle, of course, if you can ensure that you can take the turtle outside every week and put it in a container, and then use shallow water to dry it for 30 to 60 minutes (avoid exposure), you can also ignore the sundeck.
Back to the point, the reason why the turtle needs to be sunburned. It's because the turtle needs UVU and UVB in the light. UVA is simply to play a heating function, it can enhance the cell activity in the turtle body while enhancing the turtle's resistance to disease, but also can promote the turtle's appetite and reproductive ability.
And we often say that going out to the sun to supplement calcium is also applicable here in the turtle, UVB in the light will promote the turtle to synthesize vitamin D3, and vitamin D3 will promote the turtle's absorption of calcium and phosphorus to achieve the effect of calcium supplementation. The turtle shell can be beautiful, but also need UVB.
So if you keep your yellow-headed turtle alive, a sundeck plus a sundress is a must! However, even if there are these two things, it is still recommended that you can properly let the turtle see the sun when you have the conditions. UVC in sunlight can give turtles a bactericidal effect, and also has a certain preventive effect on diseases such as water mold.
If the yellow-headed side-necked turtle wants to raise it well, it is also important to feed it. Turtles are generally more resistant to hunger, so in general I feed them once every 1-2 days. And the food fed has only one suggestion, that is, the food must be diversified. Turtle food and fruits and vegetables are recommended for staple foods, while high-protein natural foods (fish, shrimp, etc.) can be fed once a week without too much.
In addition, some aquarists asked the yellow-headed turtle whether to bite the small fish, and the answer was yes. When a fish is thin or sick, or a yellow-headed turtle is extremely hungry, it will attack the small fish.
In theory, it is possible, but in practice it is not, and crabs also need to have a place to live on the surface of the water. It can even be said that in addition to ornamental fish, crabs, turtles and even "hexagonal dinosaurs" are not suitable for breeding in aquariums, and the most suitable fish tanks for these creatures should be amphibious fish tanks!
After all, it is a fish tank, and no one has called it a turtle tank or a crab tank, right?
Of course, back to the truth, fish farmers want to tell everyone that the yellow-headed turtle still has to use the sun-back platform and the sun-back lamp, but if everyone feels that it is too troublesome to raise the yellow-headed turtle in the fish tank, in fact, it is time to give up.
