Synopsis
At the end of World War I, the United States sent troops to Europe to fight in the war, and the rich son Jim volunteered to join the army, and soon became friends with Slim and The Bartender Bull, who was a construction worker in the Army. Soon, troops landed in France and were stationed in a small village. There, Jim meets the French village girl Melisander, and the two soon become in love, but soon the American troops are ordered to the front, and Jim is forced to leave. Melissander chased after the military truck, and Jim took off his military boots and threw them at her, expressing his love for her.
At the front, the artillery fire was fierce, and Jim, Slim, and Bull hid in the center of the shell crater. After a draw, the three men were rushed out of the pit by Slim to deal with the enemy's cannon. Soon, the gunfire did stop, but Slim never returned. Jim was very worried, and searched for the enemy line, and sure enough, he found Slim's body, and Jim realized that this was war! The U.S. army launched a large-scale counteroffensive, and Jim fought bravely, only to be shot in the leg and admitted to a field hospital.
There, he heard that Melissander's village was in danger, so he sneaked out of the hospital and rushed to the village, only to find the area in ruins. Soon, the war ended and the Allies were victorious, and Jim returned to the United States on one leg only, only to learn that his fiancée no longer loved him. Feeling lonely, but as if relieved, Jim decides to say goodbye to his hometown again and travel to France in search of his dear Merizand.
