Stills from "Mountains and Seas"

Some time ago, the corresponding poverty alleviation theme TV series "Mountains and Seas" was popular, and the simple people who worked hard to get rid of poverty, the snow-white double spore mushrooms that condensed the sweat of hard work, and the friendship between the two places that were not far from the mountains and seas, were deeply moved. In the play, Professor Ling Yinong helps the immigrants in Minning Village, Ningxia to get rid of poverty and get rich through the development of fungal grass and mushroom cultivation industry, and in reality, Professor Lin Zhanxi, the prototype of Ling Yinong, solves the world problem of "mushroom forest contradiction" that "edible mushroom production must rely on cutting down trees" through the invention of fungal grass technology, and cultivates edible mushrooms "with grass instead of wood", bringing hope for sustainable development to the majority of developing countries.

Nowadays, the fungal grass has flown across the sea, and has blessed 106 countries and regions, effectively solving the problems of poverty, soil erosion and desertification in the host country, and is affectionately known as "Chinese grass", "happiness grass" and "sun grass". Herb technology has been translated into 15 languages, tens of thousands of trainees at home and abroad have studied fungal and herb technology training courses, and 13 countries in Asia, Africa and the Pacific have established herb technology training demonstration centers.

In 1997, at the invitation of the Government of The Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea, the Chinese expert group went to Papua New Guinea for in-depth research and decided to establish a demonstration site for fungal and grass technology in the Rufa District of The Eastern Highlands Province. In 1998, Lin Zhanxi's team introduced upland rice from China and successfully bred "Jinshan No. 1" perennial upland rice in East Highland Province, ending the history of Papua New Guinea's inability to produce its own rice. In 2000, Xi Jinping, then governor of Fujian Province, promoted the implementation of the Fujian Provincial Demonstration Project to assist papua New Guinea East Highland Province in planting technology for fungal grass and upland rice. President Xi Jinping once said, "I am pleased to learn that this project has continued to operate so far, has played a very good economic and social benefit, and has become a good story for the development of relations between China and Papua New Guinea." Peter Noum, governor of The Eastern Highlands, regarded the fungus grass as "a gift from China to aid the Eastern Highlands Province" and said, "This is our poverty alleviation and prosperity grass." ”

At present, there are more than 700 mushroom farmers in The Eastern Highlands Province. Zaka Aberi, who is industrious in growing mushrooms to get rid of poverty and get rich, said: "Mushrooms and fresh mushrooms are easy to grow, do not require chemical fertilizers and pesticides, are convenient for transportation, and the economic benefits are 20 to 30 times that of planting cabbage in the past." By growing mushrooms, my life has improved a lot, and I no longer feel particularly difficult paying school for my children, buying new clothes and other daily necessities. ”

Chinese experts also train local students in Eastern Highlands to grow upland rice and fungus grass. Professor Lin Zhanxi said, "This is an important embodiment of China's foreign aid concept - not only to teach people to fish, but also to teach people to fish." ”

It is called "forest grass" in PNG, which commemorates the friendship between China and New Guinea and the gratitude of the people of PNG to China's science and technology aid workers. The former Minister of Defence of Papua New Guinea specially named his daughter "Fungus Grass" in Hanyu Pinyin and published it in the newspaper. He specially explained to Professor Lin that no matter what the future of the fungus project is, no matter how the world changes in the future, we must not forget China's help and support for Papua New Guinea, and we must always remember this period of history.

In Fiji, Chinese fungal herb technology is hailed as the "new hope for island agriculture", ending Fiji's history of not being able to produce edible and medicinal mushrooms. "China Endard" (the local language's honorific title for adult males) is used local materials to teach local people to build greenhouses to grow fungus and grass. The economic, ecological and social benefits of fungal grass cultivation are available, which effectively improves the soil of Fiji and prevents soil erosion.

In Rwanda, the National Agricultural Council promotes intercropping and seeding of fungal grasses with other crops throughout the country. Since 2006, Chinese fungal and grass experts have started a technical cooperation project on fungus and grass in Rwanda, demonstrating and popularizing fungal and grass technology in the local area and holding fungal and grass training courses. Josiana umbeyi, Technical Coordinator of The Rwandan Agricultural Council, said: "The raw materials for the herb technology are available locally in Rwanda, suitable for small-scale production, and are a good opportunity for Rwandans to increase their income. ”

In 2017, the "China-UNITED Nations Peace and Development Fund Fungus Technology Project" was launched at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, and the fungal grass technology became an effective measure to implement the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. In 2019, at the high-level meeting of the United Nations Fungus AndcherRy Project, Espinosa, President of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, said: "China has told a great story through the herb technology, and the spark ignited in Fujian shows the great potential of technological innovation, and if an innovation is properly cultivated and deployed, it can improve the living conditions of people around the world."

In the vicissitudes of the world, grass may be ordinary and small, but it is precisely with a grass seed that China has fulfilled its promise of assistance to the international community on the global land. China's scientific and technological innovation and wisdom exploration to promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind are like fungi and grasses around the world, which are endless.
