On the afternoon of May 14th, the swimming pool, badminton and table tennis venues attached to the First Division of Jing'an District were very lively - more than 350 primary school students from 7 districts and 30 schools in Shanghai turned sports into a friendship bond and felt the joy of the first Shanghai Primary School Students' "Happy Cup" physical education observation and display activities.
For twenty consecutive years, swimming has become a compulsory course for Jing'an students

In 1998, Shen Jianqiang, the "Prince of Asian Swimming", who returned from his studies in Japan, was bent on introducing swimming lessons to the Shanghai campus. Graduated from Jing'an District Minli Middle School, he heard that in 2001, the First Division attached a small school to build a new indoor swimming pool, so he came to the Jing'an District Education Bureau with the plan, and the two sides hit it off.
In 2002, Jing'an District set a precedent in the city, and in the form of government procurement services, the Shen Jianqiang Swimming Club tailored swimming lessons for Jing'an students. At the same time, the Jing'an District Sports Bureau specially approved the establishment of a small swimming team attached to the first division of the Shen Jianqiang Swimming Club, with the help of the school's teaching staff, to jointly cultivate new swimming seedlings.
After 20 years of development, Jing'an has carried out universal swimming lessons, and the scope has been expanded to nearly 40 primary and secondary schools, and it is planned to cover all areas in the future. According to coach Huang Xiaoling, students have one swimming lesson per week, a total of 32 lessons in two semesters, to ensure that each student learns one or two swimming styles. To date, nearly 40 schools have incorporated swimming into their physical education classes, with nearly 1,700 people taking swimming lessons each school year. Swimming lessons are distributed in all grades of primary and secondary schools, with three grades: the fourth grade, the first grade and the first year of high school.
A relevant person from the Jing'an District Education Bureau believes: "There are ideas, inheritances and developments. We have financial security, venue protection, and the assistance of relevant teachers, so that students in Jing'an District can master the basic skill of swimming during the learning stage and harvest health and happiness in physical exercise.
