On the afternoon of 8 November, UNESCO's official website announced that a new batch of 49 cities had joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, and Huai'an had been successfully selected as the "World Capital of Gastronomy", becoming the fifth city in China to join the ranks of the "World Capital of Gastronomy" after Chengdu, Shunde, Macao and Yangzhou.

The UNESCO Creative Cities Network is a platform for bringing together cities around the world that are based on creativity, including handicrafts and folk art, design, film, gastronomy, literature, media arts and music. After five years of unremitting efforts, Huai'an has successfully joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

Huai'an is an important birthplace and inheritance of Huaiyang cuisine, and has previously been awarded the titles of "Hometown of Chinese Huaiyang Cuisine" and "Famous Food City of China". Huaiyang cuisine began in the Spring and Autumn Period and flourished in the Ming and Qing dynasties, and is the benchmark cuisine of the "First Feast of the Founding of the People's Republic of China" in New China. There are more than 1,300 kinds of famous dishes in Huai'an, and 298 courses have been selected as provincial intangible cultural heritage, which is the largest number of districted cities in the country.

Chinese food culture is well-known in the world, and Huai'an has been selected as the "World Capital of Gastronomy", which is conducive to promoting the international exchange of Huaiyang cuisine, so that more and more people can feel Huai'an's rich cultural heritage and unique urban charm.
