Sentenced to up to 10 years in prison The Xuanzhou District Court of Xuancheng publicly pronounced a verdict on Liu Jian and 22 others involved in the evil case

On September 27, the reporter learned from the Xuanzhou District People's Court of Xuancheng City that on September 24, the court publicly pronounced a verdict on Liu Jian's case and 22 other defendants involved in the evil case. Liu Jian, the ringleader who organized and led the criminal group, was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment and fined 3.02 million yuan for four crimes, including illegal mining, picking quarrels and provoking trouble, forced trading, and bigamy, and sentenced to 3.02 million yuan; the other 21 defendants were sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment ranging from six months to seven years and four months, and were sentenced to corresponding property punishments.

After trial, the court ascertained that in September 2008, defendant Liu Jian, defendants Gao X, Xue X, Wang X and others committed the illegal and criminal acts of picking quarrels and provoking troubles in the process of getting acquainted, which to a certain extent strengthened the social prestige of Liu Jian and others. Between August 2014 and April 2019, defendant Liu Jian, together with defendants Huang X, Shen X, Ding X, Gao X, Xue X, and others, in order to obtain the benefits of the placer market economy, under the cover of river dredging and mining permits, systematically adopted methods such as cross-border mining, over-exploitation, and unlicensed mining in the prohibited mining areas to repeatedly carry out illegal sand mining illegal and criminal activities in Langchuan River Road in Langxi County, Baichekou Radish Beach in Xinfa Town, Langxi County, and Huanglongzui in Nanyi Lake, Xuanzhou District, under the cover of dredging of rivers, over-mining, and unlicensed mining in prohibited mining areas.

Defendants Liu Jian, Ding X, Gao X, and others gradually formed a criminal group of evil forces with stable organization, clear hierarchies, and a clear division of labor, of which defendant Liu Jian was the leading member of the evil forces criminal group, and defendants Ding X, Huang X, Shen X, Gao X, Wang X, Xue X, Dai X, Li X, Hu X, Shen X Jun, Lu X, and Cao X were the main members of the evil forces criminal group. In recent years, under the protection of Li Mou, the head of the water administration and water resources unit of the former Langxi County Water Conservancy Bureau and deputy captain of the water administration supervision brigade (who has been sentenced), the defendant Liu Jian and others have ignored government management, openly challenged public power, and wantonly illegally mined placer mines, seriously damaging the local natural ecological resources and environment.

After trial, the court made the above judgment in accordance with law based on the facts, circumstances, social harmfulness, attitude of admitting guilt, and their respective positions and roles in the organization.
