"Hedong lion roar" is to describe the situation of the angry woman and the jealous woman, everyone knows it, but why does it have to be the lion roar of "Hedong" instead of the roar of the lion elsewhere? I think a lot of people don't know.
This idiom comes from four sentences in Su Dongpo's poem "Send Wu Deren and Jian Chen Jichang": "The residents of Longqiu are also pitiful, and they talk about the emptiness and say that there are sleepless nights." Overhearing the roar of the lion in Hedong, the staff fell into the palm of his hand in a daze. The Longqiu resident, chen Jichang, was a good friend of Su Dongpo, who lived in seclusion in Qiting (present-day Macheng, Hubei) in Huangzhou, and called himself a longqiu resident. Su Dongpo degraded the official HuangZhou, and Chen Ji was very close.
Chen Jichang's wife's surname is Liu, which is the Hedong people's clan, Hedong is now Shanxi, in ancient times, it was the place where the Liu surname Wang clan lived, so the Liu clan was called "Lady Hedong". Chen Ji was often a good sword drinker, spent money like earth, and often called himself a noble man. Of course, such a character likes to make friends, to make friends is to drink, to drink wine is to call prostitutes, which is the traditional style of the ancient literati. In addition, Chen Jichang also had concubines, and the jealous Lady Liu often got angry with her husband for this. Su Dongpo's four poems are to make fun of Chen Jichang's sleepless night drinking and talking with his friends, Madame Liu became impatient, roaring like a lioness, poor Chen Jichang was trembling, and the cane he was holding was frightened, and his heart was dazed and trembling. It can be seen how much Chen Jichang is usually afraid of the inside.
Chen Jichang's concubine was called Xiuying. Su Dongpo has a very shallow amount of alcohol, but he likes to drink, get drunk as soon as he drinks, and start to look out of the ocean as soon as he is drunk. Once, after getting drunk, Su Dongpo sent a letter to Chen Jichang, and after waking up drunk, he didn't remember anything, su Dongpo's wife told her husband that the letter was written as "Qixiu Yingjun" and actually wanted to have a one-night stand with Xiuying! Su Dongpo was startled, and quickly wrote a letter to Chen Jichang to apologize, and humorously laughed at himself, "The so-called drunken time is the waking language", which means that I usually look at Xiuying and vomit the truth after getting drunk. This is, of course, Su Dongpo's humor. In ancient times, concubines had no status at all, and the master often even let the concubine sleep with his good guests. Lady Hedong's jealousy is famous, so Su Dongpo's letter of apology was actually written to Lady Liu, which shows that Lady Liu's jealousy is not only aimed at her husband, but also at her husband's friends—although she is jealous of her husband's concubines, she is also jealous when her husband's friends beg for concubines.
The case ended in such a way that Chen Jichang received the letter and gave Su Dongpo a "ǎn towel" that was used to wipe it. Su Dongpo got off the donkey and returned a poem "Xie Chen Ji Chang Hui A Towel", which ended with self-deprecation.
Huang Tingjian is also a good friend of Chen Jichang, and in a correspondence, Huang Tingjian joked: "I heard that Lady Liu is sick again? Ji Chang, you are old, you only seek purity, and you have never taken a concubine again, so how did Lady Liu get this disease? Another letter said: "When you are playing in the mountains and rivers, you have a concubine to follow, you can adjust your diet and live, so that the illness is alleviated, but Lady Hedong does not know how to pity you, how can you still be so ignorant!" "It can be seen how loud Madame Liu's reputation for jealousy is!"
