Today in NBA history: Magician retires from HIV

On July 11, 1991, Lakers legendary superstar Magic Johnson announced his retirement, and it is well known that the reason for the magician's retirement was because of the detection of HIV.

The Magic briefly returned to the field in the second half of the 1995–96 season, playing the Remaining 32 games of the regular season for the Lakers, and on May 14, 1996, after the Lakers were eliminated by the Rockets in the first round of the playoffs, Elvin Johnson announced his retirement again.

Elvin Johnson was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1979 NBA Draft and played for the Los Angeles Lakers all his career. He led the Lakers to five NBA championships in 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987 and 1988. He was elected to the regular season mvp 3 times in his career, fmvp in the NBA Finals 3 times, selected to the NBA All-Star team 12 times, selected to the NBA All-NBA Team First Team 9 times, selected to the NBA Best Team In 1982, elected NBA Steals King twice, and voted NBA Assist King 4 times. Is recognized as the greatest point guard in NBA history.

After retiring from the army, the magician has been battling AIDS and in March 1997 announced a full recovery from the defeat of the virus. Today, magicians are not only successful in business investments, but also active in basketball commentary. Compared to the athletes who have been profligate after retiring and causing bankruptcy, it is an inspirational model.
