The Ice Age series is the first animated film series in Hollywood today to have a sequel to the number 5. The final chapter of the series, Ice Age 5: Interstellar Collision, was released in China on Friday (August 23), and the entire series of Ice Age was introduced to China, and this series of animated films was quite popular in China.

Ice Age is arguably the most famous animation brand of Blue Sky Studios under 20th Century Fox, and has achieved impressive box office in North America and around the world. The first four episodes all grossed more than $160 million in North America, the third was even $196 million, and the first had $176 million. However, Ice Age 5 met Waterloo, and North America just over $60 million. Ice Age 3 grossed the highest in the series at $887 million, the fourth at $877 million, while the plummeting fifth had less than $350 million so far.
The filmmakers have been emphasizing that the "Ice Age" series is the world's highest-grossing animated series when doing publicity, and the series's global cumulative box office has exceeded 3.1 billion US dollars, which is higher than the "Shrek" series (less than 3 billion US dollars in total, and the "Cat in Boots" is not counted. )
The first part of "Ice Age" was translated in September 2002 when it was released in China, "Ice Age", and it was half a year later than in North America, because only the digital version of the box office was not much. When the second part was released in China on June 9, 2006, the translation of "Ice Age" was abandoned and renamed "Ice Age". Less than 3 months after the North American release, the box office is quite good, reaching 36.31 million yuan, higher than Disney/Pixar's "Cars". The second part also ushered in a 3D re-release on October 13, 2014, with the subtitle added: The Disaster of Melting Ice. "Ice Age 2: Melting Ice Disaster" also uses Huang Lei and his daughter Duoduo dubbing, but the box office increase is limited, only 44.16 million yuan, less than 8 million yuan more than the first time.
Ice Age 3 was released in China on July 9, 2009, just a week after North America. The third part made the series have a 3D version for the first time, and the domestic box office broke through 100 million for the first time, beating the "Flying House Tour" in the same period with 150 million yuan, which was second only to "Kung Fu Panda" in 2008 and ranked second in Chinese film history animation. On July 27, 2012, the introduction of "Ice Age 4: Continental Drift" in China was two weeks later than north America, but the box office once again leapt forward, when the 447 million yuan was once again second only to the 620 million set by "Kung Fu Panda 2" in 2011, and continued to rank second in the mainland animation box office, which did not change until the release of "Journey to the West" in 2015.
"Ice Age 5: Interstellar Collision" was released in China more than a month later than in North America, and not only did it specially invite comedians Shen Teng and Ma Li to voice it, but it also became the first time the series landed on imax. However, from the current release situation, the box office increase of the fifth part is much worse than the first two episodes, and it is completely out of the show to be the second place in the animation box office again, and the final box office may be higher than that of "Ice Age 4". Although not ideal, "Ice Age 5" will easily beat North America at the Chinese box office, and the cumulative box office of this series in China will be second only to the "Kung Fu Panda" series.
