Changing The Wuxi Grand Canal is a 35-kilometre section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, the longest in the world. It played a significant role in China's economic and transportation history.
Driving from my home in Shanghai took 1 hour and 40 mins, covering about 130km.
After parking, we took the convenient subway to the CBD.
A local showed us the way to the Wuxi Grand Canal, and we walked along the main road to get there.
On the way, we passed a noodle and dumpling store named Wang Xing Ji, established in 1913.
We ordered Xiaolongbao and beef noodles, but unfortunately, my favourite Xiaohuntun was sold out.
Later, a local introduced us to the popular Nanchan Temple(南禅寺）， where mouth-watering snacks and activities could be enjoyed, and it connected to the Wuxi Grand Canal.
In my 30s, I lost interest in visiting cities near Shanghai and didn't appreciate rivers, water, or gardens.
I considered Shanghai one of the best cities in China and other cities wouldn't be as good.
I am shocked that after living in Australia for many years, one reason, I am learning how to connect with my true self.
The other reason was that in Australia, oceans are everywhere, and it's hard to find a river.
Now I've changed my mindset, and I find living in small cities like Wuxi has many advantages.
For example, the Wuxi Grand Canal is so close to the CBD, and it's easy to go for a walk there, enjoy the beautiful night view, the boats, and the bridges, and take photos along the river and have snacks.
Previously, I didn't accept other cultures, but now I can see beauty everywhere when I see the beauty in myself.
Wuxi, as a city, has always been Wuxi, but how I see WuXi has changed because I changed my perspective, and that's how I see the world as it is.
