寫作技巧——這些常見的連接配接詞使用錯誤，快來排雷

科學論文的主要目的是傳達已經進行的工作和獲得的結果。但是流水賬式地列出方法和發現很容易會讓讀者失去讀下去的興趣。

想要讓論文連貫且避免流水賬，常見方法是運用銜接、對比或用簡單的詞句進行介紹。但是對于英語非母語的作者來說，在這種銜接上出現錯誤也是很常見的。是以今天我們來介紹一下這些連接配接詞的用法。

延續

如果你想給一個句子添加更多的資訊，但延長它又會使它變得太長，那麼你可以用一個延續性的詞或短語來代替，如：

The measured decrease in density suggested a significant loss of mass. Furthermore, this was also confirmed by the spectrometry results.

“furthermore”一詞通常用來連接配接補充資訊。還可以用“additional”、“in addition”或“further”來替代。

“moreover”的用法跟“furthermore”類似，但是“moreover”多了一層強調的意味，表示後面的内容加強了前面的句子：

To replicate these experiments would be difficult. Moreover, it would serve no practical purpose.

把 "at the same time "或 "meanwhile "當成上述的連接配接詞用的情況很常見。在非正式場合，它們可以當成連接配接詞使用，但在科學論文中，最好隻在表示“simultaneously”，即“同時”時用這兩個短語。

During the reaction, a large peak appeared in the spectrum. At the same time, the pressure in the chamber increased by a factor of two.

對比

“however”這個詞常用來強調兩個資訊之間對比：

Almost all the samples survived the impact intact. However, one shattered completely.

其他詞也可以起這樣的作用，像“nonetheless”可以用作“despite what has just been said”（無論如何）：

The overall efficiency of this method is low. Nonetheless, it remains a popular approach to the problem.

“nevertheless”這個詞與“nonetheless”同義，它們可以互換使用。而“even so”則是與其同義但是稍微沒這麼正式的說法。

但是像“anyhow”“still”以及“all the same”這樣的詞最好就不要用在科學論文中，因為它們過于不正式。

“in contrast”這個短語可以用來強調兩個結果之間的差别：

The males spent on average 36% of their time engaged in territorial disputes. In contrast, the females showed no interest in these quarrels.

“conversely”可以在這個句子中替代“in contrast”

另外需要注意的是，"on the other hand "這一短語似乎在論文出現得太多了。編輯或讀者看到這種連接配接詞可能會覺得千篇一律，是以最好盡可能少用，尤其是沒有與之對應的另一半“on the one hand”出現時。這種情況下，可以用“on the contrary”代替：

The reaction rate did not increase with temperature; on the contrary, it was found to decrease.

應避免的其他短語和詞語

還有一些其他的介紹性詞語和短語，在論文中最好避免使用。

首當其沖的就是“in order to”，雖然嚴格來講它跟上述的例子不屬于同一類别，但是它出現的頻率實在是太高了。實際上，我們完全可以用“to”來代替這個短語，進而讓我們的文章更簡潔易讀。

其次就是“nowadays”這個詞，雖然用法沒錯，但是這個詞出現在論文顯得過于口語化。我們可以考慮用更具體的表達方法，比如：“in the last three years”、“since 2010”或直接說“currently”

另外，“What’s more”這個短語在論文中也稍顯不正式，可以用上述的連接配接詞替代，如“moreover”或 “in addition”。而“besides”也是一種不正式的說法，可以用“moreover”替代。
