有傳聞稱WP8今年等不來VPN，可能要等到Windows Phone Blue更新才會支援VPN。現在又有外媒表示了相似的觀點。
據外媒報道，從曝光的Windows RT 8.1截圖中可以推測出來這一消息。Windows RT 8.1和Windows Phone有很多共同性，下一版的Windows Phone可能會和Windows RT 8.1有幾乎相同的API。外媒推測Windows RT中的新功能也将到達Windows Phone Blue中。
Justin Angel稱，這些功能包括Bluetooth 4、Bluetooth Low Energy支援。Windows RT還将支援VPN以及LTE。雖然還不能确定這些功能都将到達Windows Phone中，但是通過Windows Phone Blue更新提供這些功能的可能性還是很大的。
