Battlefield, the popular war simulation video game, is being adapted into a television series,Deadline reports.
The first-person shooter, which pits players against each other in environments including World War II, Vietnam as well as fictional conflicts between the U.S. and Russia, will be adapted by Paramount Television and Anonymous Content. No work is currently attached to the project.
"EA's Battlefield has an incredibly dynamic narrative, coupled with a loyal fan base, which will allow us to bring this exciting and unique property to the small screen," said Paramount TV president Amy Powell.
This marks the second time the Battlefield series has been optioned for television adaptation, the first being when Fox attempted to adapt Battlefield: Bad Company in 2012. The latter was never picked up to series.
While many video game adaptations bee feature films, momentum may be gaining to bring more video games to the small screen. Though it was canceled after three seasons, Syfy's cross-platform series Defiance, for example, took place in both a video game and television format.
