#英語詞彙辨析#
人在任何時候在心理都應該有一些或大或小的山，它們是一切努力的源頭和奮進的動力，是人實作自我的基本存在，有壓力才有動力，而且沒有把你壓垮的将是鑄就你前程的非凡動力；借力打力，實作人生的飛躍。
在英語中，我們常用 mountain 來表示高山，它常縮寫為 Mount，有時也縮略為 Mt，常用于一些地名專有名詞。，比如珠穆朗瑪峰（Mount Qomolangma）、泰山（Mount Tai），乞力馬紮羅山（Mount Kilimanjaro）或肯亞山（Mt Kenya）等。
首先 hill 的英文解釋是：an area of land that is higher than the land around it, but not as high as a mountain，意為“山丘，小山”，而 mountain 的英文解釋：a very high hill, often with rocks near the top，意為“高山，山嶽”，例如：
1. hill，山頂往往是圓形的，是以經常有人在上面蓋房子或建城堡等
The house is built on the side of a hill overlooking the river.
房子建在可俯視河流的小山坡上。
The castle is set on a steep hill.
這座城堡坐落在一座陡峭的山上。
2. mountain，大多數都有陡峭的斜坡和明确定義的山峰（well-defined summit/peak），是以登某些高山是一個挑戰，例如
The Rockies are a mountain range in the western United States.
落基山脈是美國西部的一條山脈。
We camped on one of the lower slopes of the mountain.
我們在山的一個較低的山坡上露營。
由此可見，mountain 是比 hill 高的山，這也就是為什麼登山說成 climb a mountain 或 go mountain climbing，而不說 climb a hill 或 go hill climbing，于是跟登山有關的術語都是用 mountain，如 mountain bike，mountain climber 等等。
在一些習語或短語的使用中，因為 mountain 的高大，是以它常被用來比作極難的事情，如 have a mountain to climb，而且它常常還用來表示某物的數量很大，例如：
If you want to found an IT company, you will have a mountain to climb.
如果你想成立一家IT公司，你将有很多困難的事情要做。
Parents always have mountains of work to do when educating their children.
父母在教育孩子時總是有大量的工作要做。
一般來說，hill 和 mountain 的主要差別總結如下：
1. 通常 hill 的海拔高度比 mountain 的低，通常是低于2000英尺，看起來像一個“腫塊”，山頂常呈現或丘狀，而 mountain 的海拔高度最低通常是大于2000英尺。
2. 當描述當地的地形時，通常用山或山峰來表示，此時山的名字裡就常含有 mountain 和 Mount，而不用 hill，如胡德山（Mount Hood）, Mount Ranier（拉尼爾山）等等。
3. Mountain 通常都有一個名詞和一個主峰，且有陡峭的山坡，不容易攀爬，是以登山有的時候是一個極大的挑戰，而 hill 通常沒有名字，頂端比較圓，容易攀爬，是以登山運動中的山通常是指 mountain。
4. 當然也存在例外，有時山名中含有 hill 的山也被認為是 mountain，如拉科塔印第安人命名的黑山或布萊克山（the Black Hills）。
