On 17 May, accompanied by Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Zheng Xincong, and Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Mr Ao Ieong U, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Macao SAR Government, Xia Baolong visited the University of Macau and the Macau University of Science and Technology respectively to learn about the latest development of higher education in Macao and to hear about the progress made by the universities in scientific and technological innovation and academic research.
Director Xia Baolong first visited Macau University of Science and Technology, visited the Information Technology Exhibition Hall, the Smart Campus Service Platform and the University History Museum, and then went to the Kangze Innovation and Technology Center to listen to the latest development of the University's industry, education and research by the Supervisor of Macau University of Science and Technology, Liao Chak Wan, and President Li Xingwei, as well as the work of promoting the work of the National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station of the Coastal Ecological Environment of Macao and the Key Laboratory of Digital Twin of the Ministry of Water Resources.

Subsequently, Director Xia Baolong inspected the University of Macau, visited the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, the exhibition area of scientific research projects and the Ancient Books of Wu Yisun Library, and listened to the new progress and future planning of the University in talent training, scientific research and innovation, and industry-university-research cooperation in recent years, the progress of industry-university-research work and the school-running plan in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, as well as the understanding of the university's scientific research and academic achievements in all aspects. Director Xia Baolong had a cordial exchange with relevant teaching and research personnel.

The Secretary for Education and Youth Development, Gong Chi-ming, said in an interview after the inspection that Director Xia Baolong visited Fangzhong School in Macao, Hengqin School affiliated to Hao Kong Secondary School (school for Macao children), two institutions of higher learning and educational associations to understand the education situation in Macao, affirm the education work in Macao in all aspects, and reflect the importance and support of the central government to education in Macao. Director Xia Baolong provided valuable guidance and support for the development of education and the running of schools in Macao, and urged the education sector in Macao to continue to inherit the core values of patriotism and love for Macao, and make good use of the country's policies for Macao while adhering to high-quality education. The Macao SAR Government has spared no effort in investing in education, through free education and the investment in education by the Education Fund, so that Macao's education can be diversified, Macao students have achieved the world's best results in international tests, and many of Macao's higher education institutions have been continuously rising in the world university rankings. Director Gong Zhiming thanked the central government for its policy support to Macao, and Director Xia Baolong gave clear requirements and guidance for Macao's education work during this visit, and the SAR Government will work together with the education sector to polish the "golden business card" of Macao as an international metropolis.
In an interview, President Song Yonghua said that Director Xia Baolong visited UM for the first time in about a year, and that he not only reported on the new progress of the University of Macau in various fields in recent years, but also reported on the talents in emerging disciplines, and will actively cooperate with and serve the moderate diversification of Macao's economy. Overall, Director Xia Baolong fully affirmed UM. In line with his vision, UM will "base itself in Macao, build the Greater Bay Area, integrate into the country and go global", and build UM into an internationally recognized university of excellence that Macao people are proud of.
