The grandson of George III and George II, whose father was Prince Frederick, Prince of Wales, died of illness at the age of 44, so after the death of George II, Frederick's eldest son succeeded to the throne known as George III. On January 29, 1820, at the age of 82, George III died, and his eldest son officially became King of England, known as George IV.
