Jiaodong surname story: Listen to a sha surname in Rushan, Weihai telling the family history

(Editor's note: Previously we had a story about the sha surname people in Rushan Yazi Town, after Mr. Sha Shengyong of Xia Shajia Village saw it, he contacted us and sent us an article on the origin of the Yazi Sha surname, which quoted genealogical information and made reasonable speculations based on folklore stories, the content is quite rich, and it is published here for the benefit of readers. )

The following is the text -

The author is a sha surname person from Rushan Yazi Town, some time ago I accidentally saw an article on the Shajia Village in Yazi Town released by the "Jiaodong Story Society" on the Internet, which mentioned the surname of Yazi Sha and the name of Jiaodong Sha (Penglai), but did not elaborate. For a long time, the author has been quite interested in the origin between the Yazisha surname and the Penglai Sha surname (Sha Cheng), for this reason, combined with my childhood observations and other researchers' research, briefly describe the origin of the two.

To examine whether the two families are of the same lineage, genealogy, genealogy, and family tree are the most favorable evidence, but due to various reasons, the stock of genealogy, genealogy, and family tree handed down by the elders is very small.

Regarding the genealogical information of the Yazi Sha surname, the author has only seen the printed copy of the genealogy book repaired by tongzhi in Xiashajia Village for twelve years, and the original manuscript is now in the hands of a descendant of the Sha clan of this village in Dalian. The preface to this genealogical book records that both the Shangsha family and the Penglai Sha surname are out of the waterlogging. However, this genealogy was written during the Tongzhi period, and Sha Cheng lived in the early Qing Dynasty. In the records of Penglai historical materials, only Sha Cheng's ancestral home is Laiyang. What is the basis for the Sha Family Genealogy Book that all the Sha family Penglai people are out of the waterlogging mouth? This can't help but remind me of some things I heard the old man say when I was a child.

When the author learned to play chess in the fifth grade of primary school, there was an old man in the village brigade headquarters who loved to play chess, and there were many people in the village who could play chess, so there were often several old people playing chess and chatting in the brigade headquarters. As a child, when I first started, I could only play two games of chess with the old people in the morning when there were few people, and as my chess skills improved, more and more people played chess with me later.

When playing chess, several elderly people would chat about some topics related to the history of the village. At that time, many ancient stone tablets can still be seen, through the words on the stone tablets, combined with the old people's narration, let me have a deeper understanding of the history of the village.

The old man said that the Shangsha family occupied the mountain household and built the village earlier; our Xiasha family opened the mountain household and moved in slightly later, according to legend, there was a Sha surname who came first, but then moved away. The upper and lower Shajia are separated by one mile, and the two villages are distributed in the upper and lower reaches of the small river, because they are both surnamed Sha, commonly known as the Upper and Lower Shajia.

Since they are both surnamed Sha and are so close to each other, according to common sense, most of the two villages are of the same clan, and this is indeed the case. But in the past, the sha people of the Xiasha family, the Tian family, and the Pengjia family would tell you that the Shangsha family was not one of the same people as these three villages. To this day, there are still old people who insist on this view.

According to the old people, the cause of this phenomenon is rooted in the fallacy of the genealogical transcription. This has to start from the ancient times to worship the family tree, the old man said, at that time, the upper and lower Sha family had to go to the waterlogged ancestral hall to worship the family tree (the time of the New Year's worship genealogy here should be said to be July 15, because our village and the Tianjia Pengjia Family Shusha surname moving genealogy were held on this day).

At that time, the popular rule was: the time of worship of the genealogy was determined by the long branch, and if the outer village branch went early, you had to wait outside, perhaps you had to stand in a disciplined manner; if you came late, you would be punished for kneeling. Over time, the people of Shangxia Shajia Village thought of a way to hide in the cabinet in the ancestral hall in advance and secretly write down the names of the people of this branch, that is to say, the family tree of the Shangxia Shajia family was secretly copied from the waterlogged mouth!

The next year, the people of Shajia Village did not go to the waterlogged mouth to pay their respects. So, the waterlogged mouth sent someone to rebuke him. When I arrived at Xiashajia Village, I saw that the family tree was enshrined and worshipped like a ceremony, so I had no choice but to go to Shangshajia Village.

Although the Shangsha family also enshrines a family tree, there is a fallacy. The people at the waterlogged mouth took a closer look and found that the family tree transcribed by the Shangsha family had written the name of the ancestor wrong, and the zhi (Sha Dezhi) was written as loyalty. The waterlogging side broke out on this reason and no longer recognized Shangshajia Village as a waterlogging village. As the ancestral home of the Yazisha surname, the attitude of the village also affects other branch villages, so there is a saying that the two villages have different sects.

From this point of view, the Tongzhi version of the Xiasha family tree mentions that the upper and lower Shajia villages are the same sect, which should be true. So, is the genealogy of the Penglai celebrity Sha Cheng's ancestral home also correct?

Regarding Sha Cheng, there are many legends left in the author's village, and most of the old people in the past can tell a few paragraphs. The old people all called him "Hanlin Ye" (Sha Cheng was admitted to the Hanlin Academy as a Scholar in the Shunzhi Period, and was elected to the Hanlin Academy as a Shu Jishi, and later the official zhi Shangshu), and the old man said that the ancestral grave of the Hanlin Ye clan was near the Wellhead Pingtang in Xiashajia Village. In the early Qing Dynasty, RushanYazi Town belonged to Qingshan Township in Laiyang County, and was later designated as Ninghai Prefecture (Muping), which explains why historical records record that Sha Cheng's ancestral home was Laiyang.

Hanlin Ye Sha Cheng and our Yazi Sha surname are a group of people, and there is a folk story that can be used as circumstantial evidence. It is said that when the elders were old, Xia Shajia Village went to Muping County (NinghaiZhou) to fight a lawsuit, and when he mentioned that he wanted to go to Dengzhou To find Hanlin Ye, the county lord was afraid. This anecdote shows that the county lord should have known that the surname of Yazisha and the surname of Penglai Sha are the same, so they are afraid that the people of Xiashajia Village will file a complaint at Dengzhou Capital. If it weren't for the same sect and the opening of the river, the county master would probably hit fifty big boards first.

Speaking of this, the author has a bold speculation, whether the Surname of Penglai Sha may be the people surnamed Sha who moved away before xiashajia Village? In the territory of Laolaiyang County during the Ming and Qing dynasties, except for Qingshan Township (now Yazi Town), there are few villages with large-scale settlements of sha surnames. And where can the Penglai County Chronicle refer to when "Sha Chengqi's ancestor Laiyang people"? Unfortunately, for the time being, it can only be speculated through oral legends, and there is no specific written genealogy for detailed examination.
