On summer nights, fireflies flutter in the grass in the forest, as if lighting a sky lantern on the ground, and as if flowing a "galaxy" between the grass. Such a dreamy picture seems to appear only on the screen or canvas, but in fact, in the late spring night, in the grass in some corners of Zhanjiang, fireflies are silently glowing, embellishing the night with a seductive "green light".
Recently, the reporter photographed about 20 fireflies flying in groups in the grass of the mountain road on the back hill of the Revolutionary Martyrs Monument in Cunjinqiao Park. At about 7:30 p.m., the grass is scattered with the green glow of the fireflies, the line of sight is slowly approaching, you can see that the fireflies are some docked on the grass branches, some are flying among the grass, and the points of light are like the spirits of the night, flashing in the grass, like a green "galaxy", beautiful, mysterious and romantic.
Fireflies, also known as luminous, sedum, such as glowing, night illumination, fluorescent fireflies, lanterns, flaming night, etc., belong to the Coleoptera family, small beetles, because its tail can emit fluorescence, so it is called fireflies. This tail can emit light insects, about 2000 species, China's more common are black fireflies, Ji red fireflies, window chest fireflies and other several.
Fireflies can be divided into two categories: terrestrial and aquatic, with the former accounting for the majority. Terrestrial firefly larvae mostly inhabit places with high degree of shelter, lush herbaceous vegetation and high relative humidity, so in some shallow grassy places in Zhanjiang, fireflies can be found, such as the trails of the Back Mountain of the Revolutionary Martyrs Monument in Cunjinqiao Park in Chikan District, Ruiyun Lake Park and other places.
Adult fireflies vary according to the species, and the activity time is also different, among which the nocturnal activity type appears from 6 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. In general, most fireflies start after sunset and mostly stop at around 9 p.m.
Fireflies glow, but they don't make sense, and these yellow-green lights emit a "romantic" signal. Scientists have found that adult fireflies emit different intermittent signals through flashes of light to attract the attention of possible future mates. Flash patterns vary from short bursts to long, continuous flashes, and different species of fireflies have their own unique way of glowing, which makes it easier for potential spouses to find each other.
Winter fireflies are in the larval stage, living in moist swamps and rotting wood. Adults occur in warm, humid springs and early summer. Fireflies usually mate in June and July, so people usually see flocks of fireflies shining on summer nights.
