Compared with the harshness and insults of the Ming and Qing dynasties to the literati doctors, the Song Dynasty, even if there is a Wutai poetry case, is still a paradise for literati.
When Su Shi was escorted back to Beijing by Emperor Fu and passed through Nandu (南都, in modern Shangqiu, Henan), he befriended the elderly Zhang Fangping and immediately wrote a letter to the emperor to intercede.
In his later years, on the way back from Danzhou, Su Shi told his companion Liu Anshi a lot of early experiences, including some details before and after the Wutai poetry case. Liu Anshi (劉安世), a native of Yuancheng (元城, in modern Daming, Hebei), was then known as Mr. Yuancheng. Years later, he relayed these stories to his student Ma Yongqing, who compiled a "Yuancheng Quotations" accordingly, which recorded the deeds of Zhang Fangping's elderly ben for Su Shi.
The "Quotations of Yuancheng" records that Zhang Fangping's intercession letter to the emperor did not reach the emperor's case in the end, because as soon as the Wutai poetry case broke out, everyone in the world was eager to avoid disasters, and Zhang Lao wanted to attach the letter to the official documents in Jinjing, but the Nandu officials were afraid of things and did not dare to help this, so the old man asked his son Zhang Shu to go directly to Beijing to submit a letter to the Dengwen Drum Temple. Zhang Gongzi was timid and afraid of things, and wandered in front of the drum courtyard for a long time, and finally did not submit a letter.

Although Wu Chongqi belonged to the list of prime ministers in the Northern Song Dynasty, being able to say such things in front of the emperor required great courage, boldness, and insight.
Wu Chong's descendants were prominent, and their sons married Wang Anshi's daughters, and the three daughters married Ouyang Xiu's sons, Lü Gongzhu's sons, and Wen Yanbo's sons. There are three prime ministers and a literary hero in the family, which shows that he is a man, and he is not a mediocre person.
