Gaborone, 11 Dec (Xinhua) -- The Botswana Wildlife and National Park Service confirmed on the 10th that at least 5 white rhinos in the country were poached by criminals in November.
"At least five white rhinos were poached in November." Botswana Wildlife and National Park Service spokesman Leseijo told Xinhua news agency on the 10th. He also said there was a worrying increase in poaching in the Okavango Delta region of the north-west of the country.
Poaching remains the biggest problem for white rhinos in Botswana, and the government has stepped up efforts to crack down on poaching, Lesaijo said. To protect wildlife from poachers, the Botswana government sent someone to remove some of the horns of rhinos and the teeth of elephants from April to June.
Most of Botswana's rhinos inhabit the grasslands of the northern Okavango Delta. The Okavango Delta is rich in wildlife resources and was inscribed on the World Natural Heritage List in 2014.
