On October 24, James Michael Taylor, the actor of Ganser in "Friends", died of prostate cancer at the age of 59.

As early as June 2019, a study published in Cancer Prevention and Treatment Research pointed out that at present, prostate cancer has become the second most common cancer in men (1) globally, seriously threatening the health of middle-aged and elderly men.

On the occasion of Men's Health Day on October 28, a video about "manpower" attracted everyone's attention and discussion.

(Tips: high energy ahead, a big wave of hilarious answers are coming!) )

What is "manhood"?

Is it the responsibility of caring for the family or the mission honor of contributing to society?

Is it full of positive energy inside or six-pack abs that are envied on the outside?

Is it a brave and fearless fighting spirit or a healthy body?

Everyone in the street gave their own answer.

But there is one constant answer - health is the cornerstone of "man's power"!

With prostate cancer becoming the "double high" malignant tumor with the fastest incidence rate and rapid increase in mortality in China in the past decade (2) (3), prostate cancer has become a male health problem that cannot be ignored.

Professor Niu Yuanjie, president of the Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University and director of the Institute of Urology of Tianjin Municipality, said: "Prostate cancer in all tumor spectrum, the incidence of increase is the fastest, although China has now begun early screening of prostate cancer, but a large number of patients we have found are still advanced, which seriously affects the survival and health of middle-aged and elderly people." ”

On the occasion of Men's Health Day, Professor Niu Yuanjie called on the public to pay attention to prostate cancer and enhance the awareness of early screening, early diagnosis and early treatment.

Category 5 people are at high risk for prostate cancer

Although the current cause of prostate cancer is not fully understood, it may be related to many factors, such as race, genetics, diet, environment, etc. The following populations are more likely to develop prostate cancer than others:

1. People over the age of 50

In general, the incidence of prostate cancer is positively correlated with age, with 50 years as the boundary, the incidence is relatively low before the age of 50, and after the age of 50, the incidence also increases with age. Men to 65 to 80 years old is the peak of prostate cancer incidence, this age group of male friends will increase the frequency of examination.

2. People with a family history of prostate cancer

According to relevant data, about one in ten prostate cancer patients have had prostate cancer in their families. It can be simply assumed that prostate cancer has a certain genetic predisposition, and if someone in your family has ever had prostate cancer, you should pay more attention to it.

3. Those with strong androgen secretion

The prostate gland is a physiological structure unique to men, and its degree of activity is greatly related to the secretion of androgens. Moreover, prostate cancer cells become active due to androgen stimulation, and because of this relationship, there are treatments for advanced prostate cancer that control androgen secretion to inhibit cancer cells.

4. People who eat unhealthily

Excessive intake of saturated fatty acids is one of the triggers for prostate cancer cells. If the daily diet contains a large number of high-fat foods, the probability of prostate cancer will be much higher than that of the average person. In addition, bad living habits are easy to cause obesity, and obesity will also increase the chance of cancer.

5. People who have been infected by germs for a long time

Prostate problems such as prostatitis are themselves a kind of bacterial infection, and the prostate gland will be more likely to become cancerous than others if it is exposed to germs or viruses for a long time. In addition, if you live in a place with a harsh environment for a long time, it will also increase the chance of cancer, such as cadmium in air pollution is also one of the triggers for prostate cancer.

PSA is recommended once a year for high-risk groups

Prostate cancer is a malignant tumor that originates in the prostate gland and is one of the most common malignant tumors in the male genitourinary system. The early symptoms of prostate cancer are hidden and easy to be ignored (4), and more than 2/3 of the patients in China are already advanced or locally advanced when they are first diagnosed (5), missing the best treatment opportunities.

Early screening, early diagnosis and early treatment are effective means to improve the survival rate of prostate cancer patients in China. Professor Niu Yuanjie introduced that there are currently three methods of prostate cancer screening: digital rectal examination, transrectal B ultrasound examination and PSA blood test. PSA, also known as prostate-specific antigen screening, requires only a blood draw to obtain test results quickly and easily (6), therefore, regular serum PSA screening is recommended for high-risk populations.

Professor Niu Yuanjie reminded that generally men with a high incidence of prostate cancer after the age of 50 should be screened for PSA once a year; those with a family genetic history of prostate cancer should adhere to PSA screening every year from the age of 45.

In addition, Professor Niu Yuanjie also introduced the method of preventing prostate cancer, in addition to the regular PSA screening of high-risk groups, in daily life, middle-aged and elderly men must pay attention to symptoms such as "dysuria, dysuria, hematuria, bone pain" and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

In the 2020 edition of the "Screening and Prevention Recommendations for Common Malignant Tumors in Residents" released by the Shanghai Anti-Cancer Association and the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Fudan University, it is also listed that the prevention of prostate cancer gives 5 suggestions:

1. Avoid bad habits such as smoking and drinking;

2. Reduce the intake of foods high in animal fat, because these foods contain more saturated fatty acids, increase the intake of vegetables and fruits;

3. Avoid foods that are too spicy, as these foods can cause excessive congestion of the prostate;

4. Drink more water in daily life, relieve urine frequently, avoid holding urine, and stay sedentary;

5. Moderate physical activity is recommended.
