Both Coulthard and Weber blamed Hamilton for Verstappen's car accident

Former F1 drivers David Coothard and Mark Weber both believe Lewis Hamilton was at fault in his first-lap collision with Max Verstappen.

Both Coulthard and Weber blamed Hamilton for Verstappen's car accident

On the first lap of the British Grand Prix, Hamilton collided with Verstappen, hamilton's left front wheel collided with Verstappen's right rear wheel, and Verstappen rushed out of the track and hit the parapet hard. Fortunately, Verstappen appeared to be uninjured, and after confirming the truth over the radio, Hamilton began defending himself not guilty.

He said: "I was walking in front, this was my line and he suddenly cut inward and bumped into me. ”

Former F1 driver Coothard disagrees, arguing that Hamilton would have to back down in that situation. Still, considering 33 points behind Verstappen in the overall standings, Coulthard understands why Hamilton feels the need to take the risk.

He said: "He sucked in the wake, there was enough space there, Max gave him space, Hamilton had to be responsible for that because Max gave him space. We know that's not really a corner, and if you want to overtake there, unless you're completely in control of the inside line. Lewis knew that in the face of Max Verstappen, you had to park the car there and see what would happen. It's a classic battle, it's Sena vs Prost, it's Mansell vs. Piquet, and that always happens. Thankfully, no one was hurt. ”

Former Red Bull driver Webb also believes Hamilton is at fault, arguing that Hamilton's overtaking attempts are "clumsy" and "extremely optimistic".

He said: "He should have quit because that was Max's corner. Lewis was obviously too optimistic to make that move, which made him seem a little clumsy. ”

Seeing Hamilton yelling at the spectators in the stands, Webb wondered if the home game had prompted him to take the risk.

Weber mused, "I think it's only on this occasion that he has that emotion of trying to do something very, very special." ”
