On the stage of life, we need countless props. Some accompany us from ignorant children to dying old people, such as stationery. It may be precisely because stationery is everywhere and naturally exists in daily life, so when they appear in film and television works, they often flash in front of the camera and are not noticed.

In fact, as film and television props, they are often closely related to the identity, background, habits, etc. of the protagonist; and as life props, they also have unique functions and their own destiny. This column is a glimpse of the film and television works to uncover the story behind the stationery.

When it comes to the things that must be brought when traveling, in addition to changing clothes, always preparing medicines, mobile phones and cameras that can record the scenery along the way are also indispensable, and perhaps you can also bring a book to collect good memories from travel.

I lived in Kyoto. In the middle, exorcation gastronomy, 风keikeiyo humanity outside, female hero regular one child this child is unsatisfy.

Poster of "Staying in Kyoto"

The story of "Staying in Kyoto" is very simple: Kana, played by Kimura Buno, was originally working as a graphic designer in Tokyo, but was unemployed due to a job setback. At this time, his uncle, who lived in Kyoto, was injured and had limited mobility, so Kana went to take care of his daily life. However, the "daily life" of Kyoto people seems quite unusual. Which pu roasted eel is delicious, and which one should be accompanied by handmade freshly prepared seven-flavor powder; where the water is the most gentle, with which home roasted coffee is the most fragrant... One tea, one fruit and one meal, Kyoto people strictly adhere to their preferences. Gradually, Kanai no longer just followed the instructions of her uncle, but rode a bicycle from the alley to the mountains and rivers to taste the meaning of the city on her own.

Since she was only planning to stay, Kana's luggage to Kyoto was very simple, including a Rollbahn coil notebook. For her living in a foreign country, this book is indispensable. She would leave behind the quaint wrapping paper of the roasted eel, carefully fold it up, and put it in the transparent storage bag that came with the notebook; she would also take out the book and doodle it in the depths of the uninhabited mountain.

Compared with the brands well known to stationery fans such as college notebooks (Campus), Swallow notebooks (Tsubame), LIFE notebooks, etc., Rollbahn is still quite young as a "post-00s". It was launched in 2001 by DERFONICS, a stationery brand affiliated with the Smith Group in Japan, and is exactly twenty years old this year.

The DELFONICS brand itself is not very old, it was founded by Tatsuro Sato in 1988. However, from the beginning of the birth of this brand, the style has been very distinct. Its product design has a strong imported appearance, the use of bright and bold colors without losing stability, the material is simple and sophisticated, and it is born with a sense of high-end that is very different from the student stationery, so it is quite popular with male office workers. The brand's motto is: "A pen and a piece of paper derived from the culture of the world is boundless." Stationery is not only a tool, but also an entrance to culture. ”

In 2000, DELFONICS expanded its business and opened its first stationery store in Shibuya, Tokyo, with a sophisticated finish that was no less than a fashion boutique, selling not only its own brands, but also high-quality stationery from all over the world. The following year, the Rollbahn notebook, which featured coil binding, was born.

Rollbahn notebook

Rollbahn, which means airplane taxiway in German, is the silhouette of an aircraft that has just taken off. The name itself seems to symbolize a smooth sense of use; another romantic saying is that it means in German that the plane sails into the sky, the beginning of a trip to a foreign land, and travel means life. Although the name is a bit fancy, and the kana pronunciation of ロルバーン is not easy to remember, the creative concept of this notebook is actually very practical: one is "simple and not boring design", and the other is "easy to use".

The detailed design of the Rollbahn notebook is very practical

In terms of specific details, the biggest convenience of the coil book is that it can ensure that it can be flattened at 180 degrees, and it can turn pages at 360 degrees, and the latter item can ensure that even in the working environment without a table, it can easily record with a book in one hand and a pen in the other. The 5mm light blue square allows two different sizes of chinese characters and kana handwriting, or people with different writing habits can use it freely, and also takes into account the dual functions of writing and drawing. A cutting line on the edge of the coil allows the paper to be easily torn off. The elastic strap ensures that even if it is tucked into the bag, the paper will not be scattered and squeezed together with other items in the bag. The pure transparent PVC bag is convenient for storing scattered paper and can be seen at a glance.

The covers of Rollbahn's notebooks are printed with inks developed in-house

Although it is a new brand, the production process of Rollbahn notebooks still follows the "ancient method". First of all, in order to ensure that the color of the cover is uniform, all Rollbahn notebooks use their own developed ink, and after secondary printing, they are oiled. In this way, the saturation of vivid colors can be highlighted. The middle square paper is printed by a large machine, and the cutting line is engraved one by one by the gears attached to the machine, and finally 10 books of 900 sheets are cut together according to the specifications of different sizes.

The most laborious is the final binding procedure, which is completely done by hand. Due to the different paper thickness of the cover and the inner page, different punching machines need to be used; the upper and lower corners of the paper will be cut into rounded corners that are not easy to turn over; and finally the cover, inner pages, PVC bags, etc. will be bound into a book with metal coils in order, and the quality inspection of the product will also be completed in this step.

In order to implement the purpose of "easy to use", the size of the Rollbahn notebook is also different, the smallest pocket is 82mm wide, 105mm long, 15mm wide, a total of 120 pages.

Small in size, all the features of the Rollbahn notebook listed above, including storage bags, are all satisfied, and the price of 308 yen (about 18 yuan) including tax is not very expensive.

Even the smallest pocket book is complete

In the past two decades, The types and accessories of Rollbahn notebooks have become more and more diverse, such as its waterproof and stain-resistant PVC notebook cover, which won the crown of the 2020 Japan Stationery Awards Cover Department; the special eight-hole replaceable inner page binder notebook won the first place in the Notebook Department of the 2021 Japan Stationery Awards.

In addition, Rollbahn notebooks will also launch various co-branded models from time to time, the latest of which is the limited edition of the three "New Evangelion Theater Edition: The End", which are themed on the first machine, the Second machine and the NERV base, and each book includes 990 yen (about 58 yuan) including tax.

The most professional one is not the "horizontal thinking notebook" that Kana carries with her in "Staying in Kyoto".

Kana in Staying in Kyoto uses a large dark blue lateral thinking notebook

In addition to the original features of the Rollbahn notebook, one of the reasons why it is "professional" is because it is underwent by the famous stationery expert Tsuchihashi. Formerly employed at THE TOKYO International Office Stationery Exhibition, he has set up columns related to stationery in many media and is also the director of the online magazine Pen-info. His books "The Character of Stationery", "Stationery Getting Started", "Shishi Stationery" and so on can be called must-read books for stationery fans.

The second is that the design of the horizontal thinking notebook focuses on "thinking". There are five column points in the upper and lower left and right, which can be freely partitioned, especially suitable for professionals to analyze their own thoughts. There is also an index area in the upper right section, which is convenient for future collation.

The lateral thinking notebook has five column points and can be freely partitioned

In terms of size, the lateral thinking notebook has two options: medium (207mm×170mm×15mm) and large (247mm×200mm×15mm), with 1320 yen (about 78 yuan) and 1540 yen (about 91 yuan) including tax, both of which are 120 pages. As for the color, it is from cool colors such as dark blue to pink macaron colors, and so on.

The horizontal thinking notebook is convenient for analyzing and sorting out thoughts in a logical way

In "Staying in Kyoto", Kana uses a large dark blue model. For her original designer work, this book is large enough to write and draw, and it also has a storage function (with five PVC bags!). ) notebook is an ideal notebook.

Lateral thinking notebooks are available in large and medium sizes

And a book that can sort out the chaotic thoughts is also in line with her current situation: because she likes to draw, Kana chose to become a designer, but she worked overtime day and night, and could only solve the life of three meals at the convenience store, which made her physically and mentally tired, and even the painting she originally liked became annoying, so she resigned in confusion. Fortunately, the time she spent with her uncle in Kyoto made her understand that it didn't matter if she didn't have to push herself too hard, and it didn't matter if she was a half-hanger. Finally, she drew in her notebook again.

Eventually, Kana drew again in her notebook

Compared with the large lateral thinking notebook used by Kanai, I personally feel that for non-professionals, the size of the medium size is more suitable for the pocket book. In fact, the medium size is also suitable as a travel account: five column points greatly increase the convenience of typography; the washi tape dispensing board and the tickets collected along the way are stored in PVC bags without worrying about loss; the design of the strap ensures that even if it is placed in a large backpack, the inner pages will not become messy.

Although it is not possible to fly to a distant exotic land at present, it is also comfortable to take such a notebook and go to the suburbs to step into the spring. Like Kanai in the film, perhaps we will eventually find that the most lingering scenery is near or far, but the place where we walk under our feet.
