Official: Dedicated to charity, Kompany received the FWA Special Contribution Award

On September 26, the English Football Journalists Association (FWA) announced on its official website that former Manchester City captain Kompany has won the 2020 FWA Football Contribution Award. Voted for by the Football Journalists Association of England, the FWA Football Contribution Awards are held in London each January, with Ron Greenwood becoming the first recipient in 1983.

The English Football Journalists Association posted on its official website:

The English Football Journalists Association is pleased to announce that the winner of the latest Football Contribution Award is Vincent Kompany.

The former Manchester City captain and current Anderlecht player, Kompany, will be present at our awards gala on January 19 at the Savoy Hotel in London.

The English Football Journalists Association chose Kompany for the Football Contribution Award, not only for his contribution to English football (4 Premier League titles, 2 FA Cup titles, 4 League Cup titles), but also for the charity work he has done in recent years, not least by working with the Manchester Mayor's Office to address the problem of citizen homelessness. Kompany also studied at the University of Manchester with an MBA and is an ambassador for the FIFA SOS children's charity.

Kompany will travel to London on 19 January 2020 to receive his award, a star-studded and unforgettable night.
