Hello everyone, I am Captain Nemo, welcome aboard the Nautilus, Captain Nemo takes you on a journey through the oceans of knowledge.
On June 13, 756 (July 15, 756), Yang Guozhong, the prime minister of the Tang Dynasty, came to Ma Songpo with his family in a panic and entered an inn to rest. Not long after, there was a shout of killing outside the inn, and many people shouted: "Kill the traitor Yang Guozhong, kill the traitor Yang Guozhong!" When Yang Guozhong heard the shouting, he immediately felt bad, so he hurriedly fled on his horse, only to be shot dead by the soldier Zhang Xiaojing. What did Yang Guozhong do, why did so many people want to kill Yang Guozhong, the captain told you in detail.
First, join the military

Yang Guozhong
When Yang Guozhong was young, he did not learn any skills, and he liked to drink and gamble, so he was despised by his relatives. Yang Guozhong was not willing to be looked down upon for a lifetime, so he joined the army and served under the Jiannan Jiedushi. Yang Guozhong had an impatient personality, but he was decisive and eloquent, so he performed well in the military, so he was promoted many times. Later, Yang Guozhong was dismissed from his official post for violating military law and lived in poverty. Thanks to the financial support of the rich people of Shu land, Yang Guozhong was able to continue his life.
Yang
In the fourth year of Tianbao (745), Jiannan Jiedu made Zhang Qiu and Qiong disagree with the chancellor Li Linfu, because Yang Yuhuan was deeply favored by Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, so he sent Xian Yuzhongtong to the Yang family in Jingba to ask for help. Xian Yu Zhongtong took the opportunity to introduce Yang Yuhuan's cousin Yang Guozhong to Zhang Qiu and Qiong, so that Yang Guozhong could be reused. Zhang Qiu and Qiong qiong gave Yang Guozhong a heavy gold and let him enter Beijing for activities. Yang Guozhong went to Chang'an, spent a lot of money to win over the Yang clan and won the opportunity to meet the emperor. Emperor Xuanzong of Tang summoned Yang Guozhong, made him a member of the Jinwu guard Cao, and promoted Zhang Qiu and Qiong to the position of Hubu Shangshu and Imperial Counselor. Yang Guozhong was good at financial management, so he was more appreciated by Tang Xuanzong and was promoted to inspector of imperial history.
Second, turn to Li Linfu
When the sea is full of blazing, the prefecture and county are full of huge millions, and the national loyalty is said: The ancients cultivated for twenty-seven years, the rest of the nine years of food, today put the Taiping, please in the stagnation of the outflow, become lighter, the inner rich Master. He also learned that the world's righteous warehouses and Ding rents, and the land lessons are easy to buy, so as to fill the Heavenly Son's forbidden hiding. Next year, the emperor decreed that the hundred officials would look at the treasury, accumulate like a hilly mountain, give the group of ministers each have their own differences, Xi Guozhong purple clothes, goldfish, and Zhitaifu Secretary of State. (New Book of Tang, Liechuan 131)
Li Linfu
Because Li Heng was not the crown prince, Li Linfu repeatedly framed Li Heng in front of Tang Xuanzong and wanted to create another prince. Li Linfu sent his close associate Yushi Zhongzhong (御史中丞) Yang Shenyun (劉慎矜) to frame the crown prince's wife and brother Wei Jian for plotting against the crown prince, and then co-opted The Inspector Yang Guozhong to let him try the matter. Yang Guozhong then defected to Li Linfu and sent his close associates To cao Jiwen of Jingzhao Province to weave evidence of the crime and frame the relatives of the crown prince. Therefore, Wei Jian, Li Heng's concubine Du Shi, Du Youlin (Du's father) and others were all sentenced to felonies.
Lee Heng
In order to establish his prestige, Yang Guozhong wantonly created unjust cases and excluded dissidents. Li Linfu hid behind the scenes and ordered Yang Guozhong to report the suspected case related to the prince to Tang Xuanzong and climb the plot. Yang Guozhong also sent someone to explore Tang Xuanzong's intentions, and he was greeted by The Song Dynasty. Although Emperor Xuanzong of Tang did not believe that the crown prince was plotting rebellion, he greatly appreciated Yang Guozhong and promoted him to Duzhilangzhong and Yushi Zhongcheng. Li Linfu was worried that Yang Guozhong was threatening him, so he became suspicious of him. In the eighth year of Tianbao (749), Emperor Xuanzong of Tang trusted Yang Guozhong even more because of the huge wealth he had looted for himself, and made him the secretary of the Taifu and was fully responsible for the financial affairs of the imperial court.
Third, Yang and Li fought for power
Tang Xuanzong
King Yushi () (hong) once defected to Li Linfu with Yang Shenyun and framed the crown prince Li Heng, but Emperor Xuanzong of Tang never deposed Li Heng. Yang Shenwei was therefore afraid, worried that Li Heng would retaliate against him, so he avoided things everywhere. Wang, resenting Yang Shen's intention to frame the crown prince, turned to Yang Guozhong. Wang borrowed Yang Guozhong's hand to get rid of Yang Shenwei and returned power to the opposition, making hundreds of officials afraid.
Changan
Yang Guozhong was deeply appreciated by Tang Xuanzong, and his ambitions gradually grew, so he wanted to replace Li Linfu and become the prime minister. Yang Guozhong, knowing that Jingzhao Yin Xiao Jiong and Yushi Zhongzhong Song Hun were good friends with Li Linfu and was deeply trusted by him, framed and suppressed Xiao Jiong and Song Hun and expelled them from the capital. As a result, Wang served as Jing Zhaoyin and Imperial Counselor, surpassing Yang Guozhong in power. Yang Guozhong, fearing that Wang would threaten him, took advantage of Wang's (Wang's brother)'s rebellion with Xing, got rid of Wang, and served as Jing Zhaoyin and Imperial Counselor. Afterwards, Yang Guozhong also framed Li Linfu for colluding with Xing Xuan, causing Tang Xuanzong to increasingly alienate Li Linfu.
Fourth, requisition the Southern Zhao
Tang Dynasty and Nanzhao
In the ninth year of Tianbao (750), the Nanzhao monarch Ge Luofeng, dissatisfied with the Yunnan Taishou Zhang Qiantuo's tyrannical conquests, killed Zhang Qiantuo against Tang. Emperor Xuanzong of Tang was furious, so he ordered a crusade against Nanzhao. Therefore, Yang Guozhong recommended Xian Yu Zhongtong as an envoy to Jiannan Jiedushi and sent troops to attack Nanzhao. As a result, Zhongtong's division was rarely unfavorable, and the Tang army was defeated miserably. Yang Guozhong went so far as to instruct Xian Yuzhongtong to lie about military information, saying that the Tang army had won a great victory.
In the tenth year of Tianbao (751), Yang Guozhong sent Sima Li Mi to attack Nanzhao, but Li Mi was killed in battle, and the Tang army was once again defeated. Yang Guozhong then lied about the Tang army's great victory to cover up his mistakes. The Tang army suffered two fiascos and lost more than 100,000 elites, so the people were very resentful of Yang Guozhong, and the ministers dared to be angry.
Jiannan Jiedushi
In the eleventh year of Tianbao (752), Nanzhao invaded Bashu, and Li Linfu took the opportunity to write to Tang Xuanzong and ask Jiannan Jiedu to make Yang Guozhong a royal enemy. However, Yang Guozhong was recalled by Tang Xuanzong shortly after his arrival, and Li Linfu died of grief. Yang Guozhong was able to serve as the prime minister, and also concurrently served as the official Shangshu, the scholar of the Jixian Temple, the envoy of the Taiqing Taiwei Palace, the envoy of Jiannan Jiedushi, the envoy of Shannan's Western Province, and the envoy of the two capitals, and the envoy of the two capitals, and completely grasped the power of the imperial court.
Fifth, monopolize power
The loyalty of the state is loose and swift, the execution of the cardinal, the self-appointment is not doubtful, the arrogance is arrogant, the hundred officers do not dare to be able to agree, and the officials and subordinates are harsh and the governors are stripped of each other. And he indulged in the emperor's lusts, regardless of the success or failure of the world. Di Ya was on the side of the matter, so he transferred the soldiers to eat, took the study of the book of evil officials, and the army had to be fast, and he could not look at it. (New Book of Tang, Liechuan 131)
Yang
After Yang Guozhong became the prime minister, he was satisfied, and when handling government affairs, he was self-conscious, and he also commanded hundreds of officials, which made the courtiers afraid. He also followed Li Linfu's old practice of handling government affairs at home. But he held more than forty positions, so he was busy with affairs and could only leave many things to the small official in charge of the paperwork, which led to bribery.
The Tang Dynasty's procedures for selecting officials were so strict that they required officials to conduct three audits, and it took three months from beginning to end. In order to save trouble, Yang Guozhong actually applied to Tang Xuanzong to complete the review within one day. Yang Guozhong determined the official candidates in advance with the small official in charge of the documents, and then dealt with it in a day in Shangshu Province. Shangshu Province's decree needed to be reviewed by Menxia Province, so Yang Guozhong asked officials from Menxia Province to watch it, so as to complete the review. As a result, the selection process is too streamlined, often leading to improper employment. Yang Guozhong also let people praise himself for his speed in handling things afterwards.
Tang dynasty
Yang Guozhong lived in luxury, built many mansions, and hung silk from the trees in the houses to boast of his wealth. Yang Guozhong was so loud when he traveled that he let the honor guard of Jiannan Province open the way in front, and countless people followed him. When a rain disaster occurred in Fufeng, Yang Guozhong actually concealed it and did not report it. When The county sheriff Fang Zhen reported the matter, Yang Guozhong was very angry and sent someone to punish Fang Zhen, and after that, no one dared to play the flood and drought disaster. Therefore, under the administration of Yang Guozhong, the Tang Dynasty was openly singing and dancing, very prosperous, in fact, the people were tired and tired, and there were many crises.
Sixth, squeeze Out An Lushan
The loyalty of the state is stubborn, and it is said that Lushan is not enough, so the angry messenger will rebel, in order to win the trust of the emperor, and the emperor will not understand. Nai suggested: "Please take Lushan as the Pingzhang affair, pursue the auxiliary government, take Jia Xun as the envoy, Jiedu Fanyang, Lü Zhizhi Jiedu Pinglu, and Yang Guangyi jiedu Hedong." "Having been drafted, the emperor made the gurudwara assist XuanLin Lushan, and did not return it, and the emperor sent the edict to sit on the side." And Rinnakin, insisted. The emperor said of guozhong: "Lushan has no two hearts, and the former edict is burned." (New Book of Tang, Liechuan 131)
An Lu Shan
Fan Yang Jiedu made An Lushan deeply favored by Tang Xuanzong, and the wei zhen side was very powerful. Yang Guozhong knew that An Lushan was very arrogant and worried that he would not live under the people for a long time, so he repeatedly claimed in front of Tang Xuanzong that An Lushan was going to rebel, but Tang Xuanzong never believed it. An Lushan supported the army in Youzhou and respected himself, although he had antipathy, but because Tang Xuanzong was very kind to him, he wanted to wait until after Tang Xuanzong's death to rebel. An Lushan was also worried that Yang Guozhong would frame him, so he co-opted Ji Wen and asked him to spy on the imperial court for him.
Anshi Rebellion
In the fourteenth year of Tianbao (755), Yang Guozhong, in order to get rid of An Lushan as soon as possible, decided to force him to rebel in advance, so he sent people to arrest Li Chao, An Dai, Li Fanglai, Wang Min, Ji Wen and other An Lushan cronies, or kill or degrade, hoping to provoke An Lushan. An Lushan was very frightened, so in the name of denouncing Yang Guozhong, he rebelled. Tang Xuanzong decided to march in person, and Yang Guozhong was a little afraid, so he asked Tang Xuanzong to dispel this idea through Yang Guifei. Emperor Xuanzong of Tang then sent Ge Shuhan to guard Tongguan against the rebels.
Seven, the escape was killed
Goshuhan
In order to deal with An Lushan, Yang Guozhong tried his best to win over Ge Shuhan, and the two became allies. Ge Shuhan had a heavy army in Tongguan, so he was persuaded to kill Yang Guozhong to make An Lushan's division unknown. When Yang Guozhong learned of this, he was very frightened, so he asked Tang Xuanzong to train elite soldiers to prevent accidents. Emperor Xuanzong of Tang agreed, and Yang Guozhong sent his confidant Du Qianyun to lead the army. Ge Shuhan was therefore jealous of Yang Guozhong and transferred Du Qianyun to Tongguan to kill him. Yang Guozhong was afraid, so he wrote to the rebels many times, asking Ge Shuhan to get out of the customs as soon as possible to fight the rebels. Geshuhan had no choice but to go out of the city to meet the enemy, and as a result, he was defeated and captured.
The rebels conquered Tongguan and approached Chang'an. Emperor Xuanzong of Tang asked Yang Guozhong about his countermeasures, and he suggested fleeing to Shudi. Tang Xuanzong then fled with Yang Guifei, Yang Guozhong, and others. Tang Xuanzong and the others panicked all the way and fled to Ma Songpo, where the accompanying soldiers were anxious and hungry, and complained about Yang Guozhong. Chen Xuanli, the general of the Forbidden Army, claimed that Yang Guozhong had acted recklessly, causing chaos in the world. The forbidden generals were very angry, so they launched a mutiny under the leadership of Chen Xuanli and killed Yang Guozhong for treason.
In general, Yang Guozhong was good at financial management and infighting, but he did not have much talent in other aspects, he was too ambitious, and excluded Li Linfu as prime minister, but he had no way to govern, making the government chaotic. He also had no military ability, and sent people to attack Nanzhao without authorization, resulting in heavy casualties and heavy casualties among the Tang army and boiling public resentment. On the issue of dealing with An Lushan, he was too impatient, only knowing that he was suppressing An Lushan's forces but was not prepared to suppress the rebellion, so that the An Shi rebels could easily approach Tongguan. In the end, he fought with GeShuhan and forced him to fight, resulting in the fall of Tongguan. In the end, the soldiers who could not bear Yang Guozhong's oppression staged a mutiny and killed him to vent their anger.
