Can you believe that anyone can become an artist by weaving wool?
Carol Milne from Canada is one such "yarn weaving artist".
Her knitting works are simple at first glance:

It's all some of the most basic knitting of yarn:
You can call it a "semi-finished product":
Some are not even up to the level of semi-finished products, the sewing needles have not been removed, and the threads have not been processed:
One might wonder, such a "shoddy" knit can become a work of art?
In fact, this is not a simple knitting, but a glass product like a fake replacement:
All the sweater needles you see, including some of the works, are made of glass:
These innovative works were created by artist Carol Milne.
Carol is a recognizable artist in the art world, and the combination of two unrelated elements of "knitting" and "glass" is the biggest feature of her work.
The material of glass under her hands can be a piece of cloth knitted from a sweater:
Can be ongoing needle threading manual work:
It could also be a knitted strip of cloth wrapped around a giant needle:
Although it is made of glass, there is no shortage of "softness" in Carol's works that is visible to the naked eye:
Tie a knot like a woolen scarf:
The texture makes you want to pick it up and wrap it around your neck:
Carol can be made of glass for anything that can be knitted with wool, such as woolen socks:
Woolen gloves:
Beanie hat:
And the kind that can really be brought:
There are also the following very age-inspired woven sandals:
If you look closely, you can clearly see the weaving pattern:
How lines and lines intertwine:
How stick needles hook up yarn:
Anyone who has knitted a sweater can even tell from Carol's glass works where to wear the next stitch:
The reason why it can be so realistic is that Carol is a knitting enthusiast herself, and like many women, knitting sweaters and scarves is one of her daily hobbies.
However, it is obviously unrealistic to make these works of art just by just by trying to weave sweaters, in fact, Carol also has a identity - sculptor.
She holds a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture from the University of Guelph, Canada, where she began her work on sculpture during her school years.
Carol's most commonly used material in his creations is glass.
She has also encountered a bottleneck period of creation, and the artistic presentation form created by glass is always very single.
So Carol tried to use clay, bronze, cement, wood, resin, etc. into her artistic creation, but she could not achieve the effect she was satisfied with.
One day after a series of attempts, she suddenly had an idea: Could she combine one of her biggest passions with the glass sculpture she does best?
After a series of ideas and creative attempts, she successfully integrated her knitting hobby with glass sculpture.
Carol is arguably a pioneer in the art of glass weaving, and before her, almost no one had thought of knitting sweaters with glass:
These complex and exquisite sculptures are not simple to make at all, not only require a solid basic process of sculpture, but also need to be familiar with weaving skills.
It just so happens that both Carols have it.
The process of making a woven sculpture is roughly as follows:
The desired sculptural shape is first made from wax blocks, loaded into refractory mold materials, melted with hot water, and then an empty sculpture model is produced.
Glass fragments at room temperature are then placed into an empty model for high temperature heating to liquefy them.
Then, leave everything to time, and gradually cool the glass into shape over a period of up to a few weeks.
After the cooling is completed, Carol needs to remove the mold a little bit, this step requires a high degree of patience and concentration, a little carelessness or overexertion, the work will be instantly "thinned".
All of the above steps ensure that after 100% correct completion, a beautiful woven artwork is born.
Some of them look very simple, as if you can just tick it with a needle:
Some will look "a little difficult to weave":
There are also for Xiaobai, who has not knitted sweaters, but it is not friendly:
Knitting socks is still quite difficult!
But no matter how well these "yarns" are woven, the effort and energy behind each work is the same.
On a whim, she also adds the hand of knitting wool to her work:
Carol's glass weaving works, in fact, not only the superposition of hobbies and professions, but also hide a deeper meaning in her creations.
These so-called woven semi-finished products, in Carol's view, are a metaphor for social structure: individual lines are isolated and fragile, but when you intertwine them, the situation changes.
Anyone can easily destroy it with a single one, but the whole that is united will not collapse because of it.
This discrete and close connection between people is the source of the power of the whole society.
"I'm thankful to be able to combine hobbies with professionalism.
At the beginning of the creation,
Some people will question glass,
And weaving cannot be perfectly integrated.
But sometimes art needs to be tried and dared to think,
Don't care what others say,
Only to do it,
You know if your idea can be realized. ”
